Audition/class size numbers

pace:

The class size we intended for was 25. We sent out letters to our top 25 and then roughly 5 waitlist received letters as well. We were fortunate enough to have (so far) 22 of our top 30 (including waitlist) say 'yes' and therefore havent really resorted to sending more than needed. To help solve the problem we had last year (accepteing 30, hoping for 20, getting all 30) we opened dialogue with the initial letter getters and as they told us of their decisions, we could then send out another letter.

I believe 700 was combined but I believe 2/3 were MT - that number is very rough though and I would need to do some fact checking.

For Pace, if I understand you correctly, 700 auditioned for Acting and MT combined and so that should be noted if added to the chart since some schools are just speaking of those who auditioned for MT. Then, the number accepted that you speak of......are those for combined or just MT? And once you clarify that, it would then be 30 accepted for 25 slots, right? You mentioned earlier that 28 were accepted.

The more you can clarify what you are referring to the better so that these numbers on the chart can be interpretted correctly because the numbers don't mean a thing if for one program we are talking apples and for another we are talking oranges. I do want to thank you for your continued informative contributions about Pace on this forum.

As far as outside coaching I was answering the post referring to a kid whose coaches had been friends, long time school and family connections. There would not be a point, as you said, if a kid's coaches were savvy about the programs, the profession, and had experience doing it. But that post specifically worried about family friends advising the kid. At our high school here there is no one at all who can advise them properly and sticking with the drama teacher would be detrimental which is how they started to come to me. I also send them to other coaches if I feel they should stretch their wings with someone entirely new, and this being LA I know some excellent ones.

The number auditioned for is combined, the number accepted is not.
700 (70% being MT)/30.

Lesmizmom-is that 18 the number of offers to get a class or is the class size 18?

[/quote]

The class size is 18. 9 boys and 9 girls. I do not know how many they accepted to get to that size.

There is someone else on this board whose D goes to Montclair this year and she said her daughter's class also has 9 girls and 9 boys.

just updating the list-if you have stats from schools not on this list please post any information you have.

BTW-what school is UIC?

I don't know if it makes much difference, but I remember hearing at the FSU information session, that they were accepting 8 this year...and that was a combined total of BM MT and BFA MT applicants. Also, it was shared that the number they choose to accept varies from year to year, as does their decision on whether or not they will compile a waitlist.

According to info on SUNY Purchase (Acting) auditions 1200 applicants in 9 cities for 18-22 spots. This year, they are lowering it to 16-18.
I do not know how many were accepted, but know at least 4 of the spots (one male/ three female) are from the waitlist. My guess is that the number of acceptances were probably around 30 or less?

Note: the 1200 auditions is from Purchase admissions info, I have also heard that the number auditioning is closer to 800-900.

FSU definitely said that they were taking 8 this year.

Yikes!!- FSU accepts MT students through both the School of Theatre and Dance (BFA/MT) and School of Music (BM/MT) They generally accept 4 through the School of Music. Perhaps the number 12 is the total of both programs.

Are most of these numbers MT and acting combined if it is not indicated? Michigan for instance?

Just wanted to make a note about the relatively small number of kids auditioning at TCU— this was TCU's first year to hold auditions.

I think becoming more selective will make the program stronger and more visible in years to come; I think it will be one to watch on this forum.

just cleaning up and noting MT vs acting

A very interesting thread. The University of the Arts actually auditioned 450 for its BFA musical theater program, made roughly 50 offers, and has 22 students coming in next fall.

Schwenk where did you get your info? I was curious too so I called last week and the person I spoke with wasn't exact but said it was close to 1,000 for Acting and MT combined. I didn't post it because it wasn't specific enough.

P.S. You wouldn't happened to be in the Bakery business. Schwenk's was my favorite neighborhood bakery growing up.

^The number I heard from reps of the School of Theatre Arts was about 600 MT auditions, which would be consistent with about 1000 combined for both MT and Acting

Updating UArts info using the larger number of auditions
