audition clothing

what should i wear for college auditions (not the dance portions...i know to wear dance-able clothes there)?

dress shirt and tie?

I'd say no tie...hard to move around, breathe, etc. Dress shirt and slacks.

I always tell students to, "dress like this matters to you." Show yourself as professional. If you can comfortably wear a tie, do so (it will distinguish you from the Izod and Miami Vice t-shirt with jacket crowd). Tuck your shirt in, wear a belt, nice hard-soled shoes, and a jacket. The key is stylish and classic comfort - if you feel awkward, it will show in your audition.

Here's another way to think of it: it's a first date. You want to impress the person, but you don't want them to think you bought a whole new outfit for them, nor would you wear a tux, nor jeans and t-shirt and tennis shoes. Dress to impress, but don't overdo it.
