Just to add another dimension to the unpredictability of the process, my daughter auditioned at one very selective school where the auditors said all sorts of nice things about her performance, called her back to sing for the head of the program who also said very complimentary things. The outcome - rejected (and as with soozie’s examples, not for academic reasons). At another very selective school, one of the auditors, in the middle of my daughter’s ballad, was overheard by her to say to another auditor on the panel “She doesn’t have it”. The outcome - accepted to the MT program with a very large scholarship. Go figure. As has been said above, have a well constructed, diverse list of schools, do your best at each audition and just move on to the next!

This process is so random. After my daughter auditioned at Unifieds she received an email from the head of one MT program praising her, saying how impressed he was and to please consider their school, come visit, etc. The next day she gets another email from a junior MT student saying she had heard about my daughter’s audition, and telling her how much she loves the MT program, and to please consider the school, visit, gave her email, phone, etc. So we figure WOW let’s go visit. She goes and ultimately gets rejected…I asked my husband “Did she DO anything?” and he said no, she had asked great questions, went to a couple classes, etc. It was very disheartening to have your hopes up and then get the big no thank you.
My advice from that experience is I wished we had not spent the time and money to go visit. We should have waited until acceptances arrived before jumping and spending moeny, etc. but who knew? I felt it was very disingenuous of the school to lead her on like that.

Okay so even though this is wrong I just can’t help myself. Judging off of my audition at Carnegie at the Chicago Unifieds I am really scared that I may have already been rejected from the program. I’ll just describe my audition and you can comment if you wish. I did dance first, which went well. Then I went to singing with Gary. I was really relaxed by gary’s pleasing personality and the fact that he and the accompianist are good friends with my Vocal coach made things better, and led to a conversation. So I sang my two songs, and Gary asked for a third one, something that was a little more legit sounding. I sang that and he said that I have great talent, and asked “can I act?”…^_^. lol he sent me out and the accompianist gave me his business card. Okay so that part was GREAT…then in acting I had kaf, and she saw my two monologues, did not work with me on either, sat me down and asked me where I was applying… Then asked if I had questions and told me I was done. I wasn’t sent in to see barbara or anything! It was pretty discouraging considering that I was praised for my monologues from all the other schools. I really hope this doesn’t mean they are completely not interested. It was the last day of auditions for them, and they all did mention that they were tired, but hey that could just be me trying to find a reasons as to why I didn’t go far in the audition… Well Showbiz, gotta love it :)

A friend of my daughter’s wasn’t sent to Barbara either and she felt it was great besides that. someone thought maybe she passed the prescreen and didn’t need to see Barbara.

All in all, like they said at all of them, don’t read into what they say and don’t say, do and don’t do. It’s just a cr*apshot and whatever happens, happens. As mine said leaving there, she felt she did her best on most and now just let things fall how they fall.

My D auditioned this year for acting saw Barbara first did her 3 monolodges Barbara looked over her resume and said you do a lot of MT sing for me, she did then she said you deserve to see Kaf do your comedy monolodge and sing again for her. My D loved Kaf she laughed at her work and looked at her resume and said you had the lead in a show which is a very hard part for someone so young can you sing from the show, which she did she then said I am so glad you auditioned for us.so now we wait!

That sounded like an AWSOME audition. Your D should be proud. I wish my audition was the same! Good luck! :)

Thanks she auditioned last year as a MT and everyone said she should do BFA acting and was accepted to several programs but, when she auditioned for CMU last year she saw only Barbara who seemed to really like her but CMU seems really supportive of most people who audition for them at least that’s the feeling she got. So she took a gap year and auditioned guess what as BFA Acting this year and those who heard her sing said she should really be a MT major, and at her CMU audition Even Barbara and Kaf seemed very interested in her singing so who knows she will probs go into stage makeup now .
