Audition Scheduled For Iu Jacobs School Of Music

"Yes, I would love to have some ideas. Is O'Hare the closest airport? I have yet to plan this trip! What hotels are close and what is the best way to get from the airport to Northwestern? I don't mind if you want to sent me a private message!"

Linnlew,
I sent you an email instead of a PM. However, I just realized that unless you have the box checked to accept emails in your CP setup, you won't receive it. So when you return from CCM today, please check. I can re-send as a PM.

Rudysmom,

Hi. I got your e-mail and responded back to it. You didn't get mine? I do appreciate the information. I am about ready to plan the Northwestern trip.
CCM went well today. I know it is a long shot to get into that place, but D said she did her best and we will wait and see. They said we should know really soon. I had no idea they do that rolling admission thing. So, next week we will probably know something!

Thanks again!

Hi Everyone!!!!

So I had my audition on last Friday (January 11th) and it went quite well!!!! We live in Chicago-land area so we drove down to Indiana at 2am, and got there at 8am. Check in started at 8:30am. After that all music education majors met and had to write an essay, and we had a brief orientation about the music program. After that they had interviews (I was the first person to be interviewed) where they would ask you general questions about your musical skills, why IU, and what my long time goals are. Then they give you a sight singing test, they play some notes and ask you to sing them back, as well as give you 2 short rhythm tests...(they play a rhythm, and you tap, or sing what you heard).

My voice audition was at 4:30pm, and once again I was the first one on the list. They had someone introduce me; I came in and performed one of my songs. I think I did a great job, and even though they told me that I needed to prepare 3 selections, they told me that the song that I performed was all they needed to hear and I did not need to perform my other two selections. I guess they could tell from the look on my face that I was kind of worried, considering that a comment like that can go "both ways" but they assured me that the selection that I chose to sing, and the level that I performed exceeded their expectations. I was SOOOO relieved when I heard that.

So then we drove back to Chicago after my audition and got home around 9:30pm. Long day I know, but since I have to go to 5 other states to audition, I am trying to save as much $$ as I can.

Good luck to everyone else, I am sure you will all do an awesome job!

DableST, Congratulations on a great audition! I can feel your excitement!

With the time difference, was it approx. a 5 hour drive? We're in Chicagoland too.

Thanks rudys mom...

We got there in 4 hours.... (I realized that I said we go there at 8am, but we actually go there at 7am their time, 6am Chicago time) There were two people that showed up late because they forgot about the time change....so please keep that in mind when traveling....

DableST_1

I hope my D's audition goes as well as yours! Good Luck!!! Thank you for the information.

I had my IU audition (music ed.) this past weekend as well. DableST_1, I was probably in that room with you when we had to write the essay. Weird. haha.

Anyway, good luck to everyone auditioning! It's a great school.

-Lostinthemusic Small world!!!!

Yeah, we had to have been in the same room together...Couldn't miss me tho, (considering I was the only Black person there) smile Good luck to you and keep us posted on your results....

Has anyone gotten confirmations for the Feb. 29/March 1 auditions?

good question, chopsticks. my S is waiting to hear.

Hi everyone,

I Just wanted to give you heads up. So I told you all that my audition was last Friday, and today I received an email from the Jacobs school of music informing me that they have made a decision from my music ed interview and my audition, however before it can be completed they need a copy of my transcript. I didn't realize I needed to send a copy of my transcript to IU and the Jacobs school of music. So I want to give you all heads up, when requesting a transcript from your school, make sure you request one to be sent to IU and one to be sent to the Jacob's school of music, so when they make their decision, you won't be on pins and needles like I am....

I never realize how FAST they would have had the results....THANKFULLY I called them and they said they will accept a fax from my school, so I hope my school fax them my transcript ASAP so I can know my results.

Good luck to everyone auditioning!!!! I am sure you will do FAB

Wow. My audition was last Friday as well (Voice-Soprano) but I haven't heard anything yet. I'm so so so so so anxious, I can't stand this at all! I really want to go there!

Dablest,

I would be moderately optimistic given that request. If you were going to be rejected on the basis of either the interview or the audition, why should they make extra work for themselves, for you and for your high school guidance department by asking for more paperwork? They could have just sent the rejection notice without ever needing to see the transcript. On the other hand, they do have academic standards as well as musical ones, so the decision could still hinge on the contents of the transcript.

I wonder: do all auditions yield a result within a couple of weeks? The only audition my son has had so far was UMass, and they gave him their answer two days after the audition. It seems that people here get the news within 2 weeks. Is that the norm?

Jazzzmomm - No. The major conservatories that I am familiar with (NEC, Juilliard, CIM, Peabody, Oberlin, Mannhattan, Mannes etc.) definietely hold off on results until around April 1st - no rolling admissions. Check with individual school's websites for their policies.

No, two weeks is quick. Five of the six schools to which my daughter applied took well over an month and one of them took over two.

Oberlin does have an early review round with auditions the first week in December and results two to three weeks later. They do make you wait until almost April 1 for the other auditions, however.

Concurring with what musicianmom and BassDad have said, waiting until April 1 ish the norm. Notification turnorounds are normally found on each schools webpages.

Good point BassDad! Forgot that Oberlin has an early review option for students prepared to audition in early December. My understanding is that those choosing the December early review can be given an accept, reject or deferred decision. Too late for this year's applicants, but maybe the info will be of interest to those preparing for next year.

Thanks--I thought April 1st was the norm for MSM, NEC, etc. And yes, his UMass audition was an official "early" one. OK. So, we'll be waiting, I'll guess! I was so hopeful...
