I’m trying to schedule 4-5 acting auditions at Unifieds (also with other colleges nearby but not officially at Unifieds). The boards I’ve read said the Acting auditions take 5-10 minutes. Pace contacted my daughter to schedule her audition. They told her it was from 9am-1pm on Saturday!! De Paul is also taking reservations from 8am-1pm or 1pm - 6pm. Her other schools are doing the same.
How does this work? Do you hang around for hours waiting for them to call you?
DePaul has a call-back mid-session, so if you don’t get called back, you can leave (but you are also out of consideration). Not sure how Pace works, but that’s an on-campus audition, which tend to be longer.
Many colleges also have info sessions etc within that block of time
Pamalama17 - how long did it take Pace to get back to your daughter? We are also going to NYC and have everything scheduled but Pace. Does anyone know if Pace has an afternoon session on Sunday Jan 24? That is the only time my D has free now. I really hope we don’t have to reschedule all this!
Pace had an initial audition and then call backs. We were able to get 11 auditions scheduled at Chicago Unifieds doing 2 to three each day – if there was going to be a delay I would let the schools know, but luckily everything worked out. DePaul is a long one. We went to the school and they did warm ups and group work. Then the kids did their monologues, then they waited and those that were not called back could leave. That took about two hours and my d was not called back. If she had been we would have been their from 1-6pm for sure. The best thing to do I found was to just schedule what we could and then talk to each school (meaning I had to run around) if there was a problem. It was stressful, but she did all her auditions without too much craziness!
So, not all colleges have 4-5 hours blocked time out for auditions?
My son had a ten-minute slot for Roosevelt CCPA and about the same for Savannah College of Art and Design (these were the actual unifieds auditions he did, as opposed to “at the same time and close by unifieds.”)
bfahopeful - My daughter got an invitation to audition about a week after she submitted her pre-screens. She auditioned for three of their acting programs and is auditioning for all 3.
astute12 - that’s great info. Thank you. I’m thinking the schools must know that there will be some overlap/conflict but wasn’t sure how that was handled. I guess I’ll wear comfortable shoes that day.
Does anyone know how long Carnegie Mellon and SUNY Purchase Acting auditions are blocked out for when it’s not on campus? (i.e. - on location)?
CMU blocks out about half a day, but that includes info session and ALL the auditions. If you’re in the first group, you may be out within an hour. (However, the length of individual auditions varies quite a bit, depending on how interested they are in you. They can be five minutes if they’re not and half an hour with multiple rooms if they are. My S did four monologues with two adjustments, sang a song and then got passed to the other room…and then didn’t get in.)
Pamelama17 - thanks for the info about Pace. We have Carnegie Mellon set up for Thursday the 21 of Jan. I know they are overbooked for the noon time slot because they emailed asking people to change if possible. They have 8:00 am and noon time slots. Acting is only on Weds Jan 20 or Thursday Jan 21 according to the schedule. Don’t know the location yet.
Yes Pace was all day if you got a call back. My son did all 3 pace auditions and got a call back and we were there like 8 hours. Plus it’s downtown so there was no way to do more than that one. DePaul was the full blocked 1/2 day session if you got a call back. Purchase we did on campus and it was the full 1/2 day session with a call back as well - but I don’t know about at unifieds. All the others he did at unifieds were quicker, but we still only scheduled 2 per day for travel time and just in case. We definitely could have squeezed in a walk in here or there I think.
We just got scheduled for my Ds acting audition at pace. She is only auditioning for bfa acting and was told to block 1:30-5:30 out (shorter if not called back for movement callback that day). So 4 hours blocked out - info session at start of it. I assume you need more time if auditioning for more than one program
how do Penn State auditions work at NY Unifieds? How much time blocked out and is there a dance call?
I think so, but you should ask the musical theater forum.
