Am I allowed to schedule my audition before I send in my application? I know that at umich and boco you can't, but I'm just afraid that if I schedule my audition but send in my application later, something will get like mixed up or something.

I wouldn’t worry about that too much. If the department or school says you can, then there is no reason not to schedule as soon as possible so that you have maximum flexibility to control the scheduling. At a lot of schools, the department controls and tracks auditioning and notifies the admissions office while the admissions office handles the applications, so the administrative processes are really separate anyway. At some other schools, usually smaller ones, both functions are administratively handled through the admissions office and as soon as you initiate the application process in any way, an admissions file is opened on you. The ability to control the scheduling of your auditions as early as possible, I think, outweighs any administrative wrinkles that may occur and which can always be straightened out.

As MichaelNkat said, go ahead and begin scheduling auditions at the schools which don’t require your application to be in. You have to start somewhere. I know it’s daunting to begin, but believe me when I say that with a little bit of planning and some rescheduling along the way, it all can be fit together like a puzzle.

An Excel spreadsheet and a calendar will be your best friends. Set up your schools and pertinent dates and review it with your parents.

I know this has been asked prior, however, I am in the midst of scheduling audtions and I don’t remember the answer. Regarding schools that have dance auditions at some location but not at others what are the deciding factors on which audition location you should choose.

Is the student in question a good strong dancer? That would be my question. If doing a dance audition shows more of the auditioner’s skill set, it seems a good idea to do it.
