Audition Scheduling

For the university symphony/wind ensemble, can we only schedule auditions before the first week of classes, or will there be any time to schedule an audition once we're there (like on the 23rd), even though the auditions take place during that week.

For wind ensemble, go to Bob’s office in the basement of Ceser Chavez Hall and there’s a paper to sign up for the time you want to audition. There is no class on the first day of class. Since the wind ensemble is on Mondays and Wednesdays, you won’t have your Monday class. Practice!

So should I do that on Monday the 23rd or before then (like this week)?

Yes, i just came back from there and the paper is already posted. The audition is from Monday 23rd to Friday 27th. You pick your date and time.

Is there any danger of the audition sheet being filling up by Monday, or should I be safe in waiting until the 23rd to pick a date/time?

i think you can wait till monday and still be fine; there are plenty of time slots to choose.

I don’t want to beat this to death, but do you think the office will be open so I can schedule a time on Sunday? I’m just worried Monday may be too late because that’s when the auditions start. Also, I called Mr. Calonico’s office several times today, but no one picked up.

Or, am I just worrying about this for nothing?

Sure, the Band is coming back from Davis that afternoon (~2PM is a safe bet) so the hall will be unlocked.

Lol, and it’s been a while that somebody calls Bob as Mr.Calonico. Believe me, Bob will make you call him Bob… He’s not answering the phone b/c he is at Davis with Cal Band.

And trust me, I recall you being an oboe player and there’s almost absolutely no way you can fail the audition. Relax. Usually we do not have oboe players so we make somebody in Cal Band to learn how to play an oboe (!) from french horn or flute player and just try our best.

Probably overthinking this. Look, if you have talent, how are they NOT going to let you into the ensemble?

Well, I’m not worried about making it really, I just hope I’ll still be able to sign up for an audition time by the time I get there. I don’t want to lose a spot in the band without even having an audition, haha…
