HI! My DD is an upcoming senior and we have begun the application process. We have visited LMU and Chapman so far, with Pace, Arizona and OCU on her list. Any helpful advice on the whole process including what types of pre-screen videos ya’ll did would be very helpful as I am very overwhelmed with the 2 step process of applying to the school and THEN applying to the dance program, wow, its crazy!! She is mostly a contemporary dancer, with a competition background, with training in classical ballet as well. Did anyone do the Jazz Showcase at Arizona and did you think it was worth it? Also the same for the fall intensive/auditions at Pace… This year they are on the same weekend, which is unfortunate since we were planning on going to both!! Any advice would be so great! TIA!
Not a whole lot of advice but I know exactly how you feel. It was very overwhelming to me too but we survived and she ended up at her first choice. Read all the audition/application information on each schools website, plan your dates of audition as soon as possible, dates fill up and senior year is crazy busy. As far as pre-screen videos, my daughter only had to do that for one of her schools and that school was very specific of what they wanted to see and even had sample videos, we ended up filming them on a Saturday after classes with her dance teacher observing and giving advice. You could probably search on youtube videos that were used for a school too. We concentrated on East coast schools mainly but none you mentioned. The best piece of advice is start applications as soon as possible, have headshots/dance photos done before school starts, get a resume together now too, all these things will help you be prepared for whatever the school may want uploaded, and each one is different. Good luck!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really appreciate the advice…it’s a daunting task to tackle. She actually sent in her first application today, so that’s a good first step. Tomorrow she said she will begin the dance audition app…
