I've been looking around at audition songs and have been compiling a list of songs to do, so far for a ballad I was thinking of doing Something to believe in, and for an uptempo song I wanted to do something from Bare: A Pop Opera, but I can't find the sheet music anywhere? Can anyone help with this?
Also, I've been searching for monologues to do and can't seem to find any. I'm 17, will be 18 when I audition, I'm 5'11", 200 pounds, brown hair and blue eyes. Any help?

Musicnotes.com has some sheet music from “Bare: A Pop Opera”. Good luck!

You will need one song from the Broadway canon - something from a show written before 1960. For material, you really will have to talk to your local director, drama teacher, voice teacher or whoever you have to turn to for advice.

Isn’t that Newsies song a duet? That would be a no-no. You also really don’t want to set yourself up to be compared to a recent Broadway performance. Few teenagers can compete with Jeremy Jordan or Corey Cott, though if you do, you will crush this process.

Turn your search toward lesser known contemporary works and Broadway standards. It’s often a good idea to use a ballad for the before-1960 song since that’s there to get information about how you handle a sustained legato line. YouTube is your friend.

Best of luck!

Libraries are a great place to find sheet music. Also I go to yard/estate sales every weekend in the summer I’ve found tons of sheet music at estates sales. Newsies is way to popular to pull from in my opinion. Anything currently on Broadway should be ruled out. There are 1,000s of musicals to pull from, just takes a little time. Many schools have a “do not sing list” there are also some popular blogs that will help out.

Monologues were not the easiest thing for my S to find either. He spent months reading monologue books and then reading the plays from which the monologues came from. Just remember the character needs to be age appropriate. I wouldn’t try to shock the auditors with swearing or sexual content either.

Good luck!

Do you have an acting teacher and/or voice teacher that can help you with this? Specifically someone who has experience with the audition needs of students auditioning for competitive MT programs? I too have had great luck finding music at libraries and rummage sales. Have also had some luck at Sheet Music Plus. Monologues are another animal. Should be something in your “type”, something you might actually be cast for. Make sure it is from a published play. If you dig through some of the older posts, I know there is a place in NY that people have had luck with for finding monologues.
