Does anyone know how long it takes to figure out if you were accepted or not? Is it a rolling admissions system where they accept/reject/defer along the way or wait until one specific time or what? Also, how many audition for American? How many are accepted? These questions may have been answered before so sorry but ugh it’s a stressful time…

They will start sending out the acceptance packages around MArch 15. You will get one package that includes both academic and, hopefully, your acting or MT acceptance. Be sure to look through the whole package because last year my D overlooked the MT letter and was really disappointed, til I looked at the package again and found it. They will also include the written critique of your audition.

I don’t have any idea how many auditioned, although D’s roommate worked at the auditions. I’ll try to ask her if my D calls tonight. They accept a very high percentage, but not everyone gets MT. Some kids my D knows auditioned for MT and were accepted for acting or theatre studies. I think this year’s freshman class has about 7-8 MT majors.

Thanks so much that’s very helpful. American is one of my top choices and I just really want to be accepted for Musical Theatre. Luckily for me, it seems I don’t have long to wait to find out! Does your daughter like American?

My D loves American. She likes the balance between academics and performing. There are plenty of performing opportunities and she has been impressed with her professors. And living in DC is so much fun. She has been to see professional theatre at least once a month (some of which are paid for by the university as they are required for class) and also to clubs, museums, concerts, etc. It’s not a BFA, you can choose how much to immerse yourself in theatre. It is what you make it!

Thanks so much for the information. It’s hard waiting for the news because you don’t want to get attached to a school too much when you don’t even know if you’ll get in! I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Has anyone heard from American academically or artistically? D received email 2 days ago with her academic acceptance. It was noted that package would follow in the mail. Upon calling, we learned theater admit decision and merit awards would be in package. Nothing has arrived as of today. I did see that CarolAnneMT noted an American MT acceptance in the Accepted students thread. D auditioned for Acting, Not MT.

I got the package in the mail with my academic acceptance, and in the back of the packet was my acceptance for MT. So the academic and artistic acceptances came together. And there was commentary about my audition as well. It was very helpful to know what was going on in their minds during my audition! Good luck to your D, and congratulations to her for being accepted to American academically, that’s so wonderful!
