I’m auditioning there on the 29th!
Would you mind telling me how many audition, how many are accepted, and what kind of talent or type they are looking for?

Hello!
I’m auditioning on January 22nd.
Very nervous, but very excited! What is the audition like over there?
I auditioned at only one other school thus far.
Ithaca is like my dream schoool!!! I’ve been up there a few times . I may have met you.

I cannot give you any exact numbers–these are just some approximate guesses.

Between on-campus auditions and Unified auditions I would venture to say Ithaca sees about 500-600 auditions.

If I remember correctly, the department anticipates having a class of 14 musical theatre students for the class of 2015. They are not looking for a specific type, only an equal yield of men and women (7 guys, 7 gals respectively). I can also tell you that typically the department expects that about half of the students they accept will choose to go elsewhere–this means that most likely, around 28 students will be accepted into the Musical Theatre program, in order to yield that desired number of 14 students.

Ithaca is looking for the best of the best in young theatre artists!

sean,

The audition process at Ithaca is really well organized and a lot of fun! You start off the day with a talk in the Hoerner Theatre with the Chair of the Department of Theatre, Lee Byron–from there, you have the opportunity to talk to current students, take a tour of the facilities, etc. You participate in a group warm-up with one of the acting professors, and then you audition for the faculty! Audition requirements can be found on the department website. You sing in one room, and present your monologues in another. There is no dance audition.

Thanks for your questions–Ithaca has an amazing program! If you have any more inquiries, feel free to send them my way! :)

cassie22, be prepared for snow and winter weather and plan your journey from Ithaca to Syracuse so that you have plenty of time. The campuses are about 60 miles apart, and Syracuse has already gotten quite a bit of snow this year (why do I have 72 inches in my mind? Something like that.)

NotMamaRose…I know, YIKES…hope the weather gods are on our side???
It appears your daughter is at NYU, so you have already been through this crazy process.

How long are the onsite auditions? If less than a half day, is there something offered like a morning or afternoon slot? Didn’t get a Chicago Unifieds slot and I’m not feeling too confident about submitting a DVD so I’m trying to figure out the logistics of an onsite audition.

You have to allow for a half day at Ithaca’s campus audition. There is a presentation first and then they call students for their individual turns. You are not given an audition appointment slot in advance. Rather, you are given the morning or afternoon audition session. You have to figure on a half day there, but you may be out in less time than that if you are one of the early ones called in during that session. But no order of names is told in advance. You are signing up for a half day audition session, in other words, not a specific audition time slot.

it says on the website that there’s no dance audition but you can incorporate dance into your audition if you want to. I guess you could choreograph your songs, or something like that?
and thank you, nobusiness! i’m auditioning on saturday ahhh!! i’m excited, though :)
