How have the auditions been so far? Discuss your experiences!

My audition experience was very positive. We arrived at the orientation morning meeting with time to spare. It was in a lecture hall across from the admissions office. We picked up our schedule for the day and met with PJ Woolston for a few minutes, then left for the dance call. It was taught in two different groups at first then we were brought all together to be divided into groups of five. We performed in those assigned groups and were finished by 10am. We also saw some current students perform and Mr. Berg spoke to us. Then we were finished until our assigned vocal/monologue time. The actual audition was not nearly as unnerving as I thought it would be. I walked in and Mr. Berg told me to state my name and the pieces I would be performing. The audition committee was very attentive and asked me several questions when I was finished. They do hold you to a strict one minute time for the monologue.

Thank you so much for your reply! What kinds of questions did they ask, if you don't mind me asking? And congratulations on your acceptance!

They asked me why I wanted to go to CCM. I think they ask this of everyone. Then they wanted to know specifics about my training. How long had I taken voice, who my teachers were, how much dance I had taken. They asked me what I thought of the student performances I had seen that day. No hard questions, just information about myself.

MChristina: PS: Thank you for the congratulations.

Bunch: Congratulations on your acceptance! If you don't mind me asking, how far away from the judges were you while you auditioned? Were you in a classroom, recital hall or an auditorium?

It was like a small rehearsal room. Not a classroom exactlly, but not a big recital hall either.

snightingale & MChristina - my D was asked the exact same questions as bunch, although I am sure that they may throw in some other ones here and there.

One thing to remember, and this goes for any audition, that this part of your audition is really more an opportunity for the judges "to get to know you". There are no "right answers" to any of these questions per se, although of course if you were to not know why you would want to attend their school, I am sure you will not leave the best impression :).

My son auditioned today for DRAMA (NOT MT). He arrived at Noon, signed in, had a "warm-up" class with the other students auditioning, then waited to be called in to present his monologues. Immediately after presenting, he was given a brief "note" on one of his monologues, and was asked a few questions, in particular, "Why a BFA program?" and "Where else are you applying?" He was done and on the road home by about 3:45PM. It was a very positive experience for him! The students were told they would hear something about acceptance within 2 weeks.

There were programs for parents during the afternoon (general info/financial aid/question-answer). There were about 30 students present for the acting audition, with girls outnumbering boys by 2 to 1.

Hope this helps others who plan to audition at CCM!

I also took my daughter to audition last Saturday. She auditioned for MT.There were 65 kids auditioning. We were there at 7:45 a.m. and never finished till 2:30. We all agree that it was a very positive experience. The administration couldn't have been nicer. Now comes the hard part....waiting.

Correction: Girls out numbered boys 3 to 1!

CCM lets you know quickly if you have been accepted. You could find out as early as tomorrow. The waiting part was the hardest part of this whole auditioning experience.

My daughter auditioned at the NY Unifieds in early Feb. last year, but was not told until March of her acceptance, so the timing really varies.
I agree, the waiting is ridiculously difficult to deal with. I was so surprised that that became the worst part of it last year. It takes courage to get through it, and I wish added guts and bravery and good fortune to anyone who waits!:)

Bunch, did you get an acceptance email or did you log on and "check your status"?

I received an email from Mr. Berg the Tues after my audition. I had two friends who auditioned last year. One was waitlisted and one was accepted. They both heard the Tues following their auditions which were different dates. Maybe if you audition at the school they are quicker getting back to you. All I know is is that I was really grateful to hear so soon.

chelle: The "check my status" didn't post it for several days after the email.
Good luck.

Thanks a "bunch". At the audition meeting they stated that on Tuesday they would be meeting to determine admission status. We did not get an email, but then again it's only 4:00. Did anyone get an email yet?

chelle: Loved the "pun." I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Heard from D that one of her guy friends heard today.

D got an email today. She was accepted to CCM!!!! She is so excited and so am I!! Did anyone else hear yet?
