Did anyone do UMich auditions last weekend and want to share any experiences…? My D has hers on Friday. Specifically, is there time to change and cool down after the dance and before the piano test (or whatever your next installment of the audition was)? My D has 16 minutes between dance and piano, and is worried she will be drenched in sweat and icky. And are the girls truly in all black for the dance call, or is a splash of color on the dance skirt okay? And were tap shoes really used for the tappers…? Anyone? We’re trying to pack lightly so we don’t have to check luggage on the plane, so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I have a son so he was in all black but the girls were dressed in a variety if dance wear. They break the kids up in the morning. Half do piano and half do dance and they all stayed in their dance clothes for both parts. My son had his monologue at 12:41 so it was a quick change into audition clothes and then he headed up to the other building to do mono and voice. The day was very well organized and everyone couldn’t have been nicer. Prepare to LOVE it.

Also, I don’t think the dance was very tough. My son said it was pretty easy and he didn’t come out sweaty. I really had the feeling that they were all about the voice and monologues. The early part of the day felt more like a placement test.

Thank you so much! So they stay in their dance clothes for piano? Okay, that works. When my D came out of the BoCo dance audition (which was 1.5 hours+ of hard dancing), she was drenched with sweat. As were all the other kids. They looked like the sprinklers had gone off in the dance studio.
We were thinking the UMich dance audition would be similarly sweat-inducing.

Nothing like that at all. He said it was basic ballet barre and a quick easy jazz combo. I just asked him and he said there is no time to change and no one did. Best of luck to your daughter!

Thanks, md311mt, and break legs to your son!

My son participated last week, too. My son’s experience was very similar to md311mt’s experience. There was absolutely no problem doing the piano placement in dance clothes. I also thought that one of the absolute highlights was the talk given by Brent Wagner about the Michigan program’s philosophy of education - downright inspirational. The afternoon talk with one of the admission’s directors was also refreshingly honest and helpful. The whole event was very well organized and was a great reflection on the program.

I also enjoyed Brent Wagner’s talk. Very complete, honest and direct. I think its nice to hear from their seniors as well. Texas State had something similar. I did miss all of that at the CCM audition, but my son had a wonderful time there - connected with Aubrey Berg, and was surprised when it was all over that I had never seen him. Two completely different audition experiences, but all seemed effective.

md311mt and monkey13…did you audition on Jan 19? Any word yet? I heard a friend of a friend auditioned that day (I am pretty sure) and has heard from them…just wondering what their overall turnaround time was looking like. I think they said within a month, but that was about three weeks?

Jan 18 was my son’s audition.
No news here. Did the friend get accepted for MT?
What did they hear? I thought we might start hearing after this weekend.
Friday is the last audition date.

Sorry, yes I meant the 18th. It’s a distant friend of a friend so all I know is accepted (for MT)…I do not know how they heard, but believe it was end of last week based on when the word got out. I am stressing now that I heard that, of course!

I didn’t realize their last auditions are this week…good to know…hopefully they will put us all out of our misery soon.

Our audition was 1/25…no news yet, but my D felt like it was her worst audition, so we are not expecting anything.
(Long story, but there is a lesson to be learned here…don’t let your kids receive texts when in auditions…my D was waiting to do her monologue, and got a text from a friend at home telling her a classmate had died suddenly of a brain aneurism…such a tragedy…and she burst into tears…and that’s when they called her name to do her (comic) monologue. Live and learn. It was an AWFUL day for us.) Needless to say, we are expecting a no. My D did not explain, made no excuses. They probably thought she was just …bad.

If you log onto Wolverine Access, you can see their decision as soon as they make it. From past years, if they say something along the lines of, “We have made our decision and you will hear from us within 2 weeks” it means a rejection. We don’t have that 3rd tab on our Wolverine Access yet. They told us the earliest we would see/hear something was 2 weeks, but more likely 3 or even 4 weeks from auditions.

Oh dear - how horrible! I am so sorry about your daughter’s classmate…what a terrible tragedy. Really puts things in perspective doesn’t it? There most certainly are worse things than a rejection from a school.

Who knows? Perhaps it was obvious to them that she was upset by something, and yet made no excuses - and they loved that professionalism? I have heard stories like that (though not as tragic for certain). Plus, I have found that our worst auditions have yielded some positive outcomes, while “the best” auditions have come back with a “no”…so go figure. Best of luck!

Hadn’t even thought to check Wolverine Access…hmmm, yet another way for me to obsess…ha-ha

I was apart of the last audition day today! It was an amazing day and Brent Wagners speech was so moving and made me love the program even more. He said everyone should know within three weeks!!

Anybody hear anything yet? My S participated in the Jan 18 auditions in Ann Arbor… no change on the Wolverine access status yet… I know they got a lot of applications this year…

We were also there Jan 18 and my S has not heard anything yet. I think they said we should hear in 4-5 weeks so it should be any day now. Best of luck to all waiting.

We spoke to someone who was at the last audition and they told everyone there that decisions would be made on everyone 3 weeks after that day (the last audition). So, looks like the beginning of March.
