Auditions & Acceptance Help :)

Hey everyone! I just found this forum and loving it! I’m very interested in attending UM. I am currently a junior so audition stuff would all be next winter. I am just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how it is? I am just interested in studying Theatre, because unfortunately I have no singing or dancing ability! I was wondering the size of the theatre class?

Also, I believe you have to have like a 3.0 unweighted GPA to apply and a SAT score of 1650… correct? I have yet to take the SAT but I think my UW is around like a 3.4… I am not absolutely positive though.

I am interested in a double major with english though. Would I have to be accepted to UM for that before I can audition for the Theatre program?

Thank you for your help :)

Hi Paigegar -welcome! There is a dedicated drama forum that might give you some of the details you are looking for. Look under “college majors.” In the meanwhile, if theatre is like MT at UMich, you can double major but you have to apply to both programs from the start. Apply as early as you can to get audition dates. Good luck to you!

thank you! out of curiousity, do you know if i was applying just to get in for a english major (since i have to apply to both) what the average unweighted GPA and stuff for that? i dont think i’m smart enough to make it :(

classicalbk - I suggested paige post over here from the Theatre forum since I know there are posters who double majored or had kids who double majored in MT and something else at UMich. There are not a dedicated subforum by school in the Theatre forum so why not ome over here and get info as well.

Austinmtmom- Goodness I also look in both drama and MT! And voice and dance forums, too! Good stuff everywhere. That’s why I’m still up at this hour…

Paigegar- if you google “freshman profile” along side a school name, you will find the typical class ranks, gpa, etc. One college admissions person told me that the gpas listed on their website were all weighted but I can’t tell you if that is the same for UMich and the rest.

thank you, classicalbk! :)

Typically for most colleges, GPAs that are listed in their admissions or freshmen profiles are unweighted. Everyone has an unweighted GPA but not everyone has a weighted one because not all high schools use a weighted grading system and if they do, there are many variations as to how grades are weighted.

Oh geez there is a downer cause while U-M says 3.0 for arts, they also say 3.9 average for their other majors. Ahhhh! Looks like that might be a stretch for me, but you never know. Thank you, soozievt! :)
