Auditions dates

I've done a search and haven't exactly found the answer to this...

I know that GENERALLY most schools host auditions in Jan, Feb....some in Nov, Dec. Are the dates GENERALLY the same every year, i.e. first weekend in Dec or say third weekend in Feb?

And are the Unifieds & SETC pretty much the same time every year? We would be looking at the Chicago Unifieds, so first weekend of February every year? And SETC first weekend of March?

D is a current junior....She will be scheduling her senior year classes in the next few weeks. We think she will have to give up some senior year commitments that are also scheduled as classes (i.e. dance team), or risk getting kicked off for receiving demerits for missing too many activities. And while she could still take course for talented drama, she's realizing that she mostly likely wouldn't be able to do the annual musical her senior year which is always scheduled for late Jan/early Feb.

sigh...

Thanks in advance!

You can generally estimate the next year’s dates based upon this year’s dates for auditions, unifieds, etc… But, things may change slightly from year to year.

In terms of SETC auditions, I believe these are more useful for a HS Junior than HS Senior. They are in March every year, which is late for many schools that have strict application deadlines.

Good point about SETC Kat!

I am thinking seriously about my D going to SETC this year as a Junior. I thought that by the end of March it would be kinda late…

I guess we would have to see for sure which schools are there that we couldn’t get to otherwise.

Is there any feedback from colleges that would help juniors or are they just so overwhelmed with people that this isn’t possible??? So the benefit for juniors is prep for MT audition process, i.e. a gut check to prepare them for the following year??? Do colleges ever follow up with juniors who audition at SETC??

Looking at the list of last year’s auditioners, there were many small and what I would consider “unknowns” who go. Could be a good place to find a hidden gem or small program that would be a good fit for my D…we’re probably only include one or two top level, name, reach schools on audition list.

Thanks for the info!

mom2them - Here are a couple of previous threads about SETC. My D attended as a junior and I am happy to answer questions if they are not answered in these threads:

My daughter’s junior year I did just what you are doing; made a ‘calendar’ of what it would look like the following year if things stayed pretty much the same. Suprisingly enough, it worked out awfully close! This year there has been a big change for some schools because they instituted presecreens and cut down on the number of auditions available. It’s possible that could happen with more schools next year, but it will give you a general idea of what you’re dealing with. If you send me an email by clickingon my name, and include your email, I would be happy to send you a complete list of all the official and unofficial schools that were at Chicago Unifieds last year . . .

We focused junior year on visiting schools over breaks and on getting coaching for auditions for summer programs, which also provided skills for college auditions.
