Auditions!

Twins are through their first audition! Berklee, EA, they both are pleased with their performances. Now the wait to see if they stood out among the 300 others today and who knows how many more worldwide between now and Jan 31. Proud of them for keeping their composure and handling the experience well.

Congratulations and hopefully both will be accepted with awesome scholarships!!! Good luck on all your future auditions, too.

We were there today and I sat next to a nice polite young man who mentioned his twin was auditioning right at that moment. Way too much of a coincidence?

Curls and glasses with a black and pink tie, black jacket? Guitar? Midday? Coincidence indeed! I was not there, but if it was my son I am glad to hear he was polite!

Squiggles hope your child had a good audition today also. Thanks for the good wishes momofbassist! We are all hoping that our children will receive generous acceptance offers.

musictwins … my D is at Berklee … she has two younger friends there that are identical twins. They have different majors but both are beautiful and talented. Hopefully your polite sons will meet them. :)

Thanks SnowflakeVT. I have read about your D’s path with great interest. My twins are both D and S. D went into her audition first. I hear that my S made the Boston Globe today, on B6 there is a photo of him waiting with his guitar and a caption about the auditions at Berklee! My family also got to see the Santa Speedo Run, also featured in today’s Globe.

Mtwins- yes it was your son I spoke to! Such a small world :)

Good luck to everyone auditioning this year! :)

I hope they both get in … I missed that it was a S and D. Congrats on your S getting famous already in Boston!

My DS had his audition at St. Rose this weekend. He actually auditioned twice, first on upright bass and then on electric. The head of the msic department was in his electric audition. We can’t figure out if that is a coincidence or if they asked him to come in to hear my son.

There were about 35 kids auditioning. St. Rose seems like a nice place, the people are very warm. I’m a bit concerned that it’s not well known, and I wonder about the depth of the teaching staff. My son is interested in the music industry program there. The school seems to be really behind the music program and has put a lot of meney into it.

We have other auditions coming up, but it is good to have one under the belt.

EB Mom - I live near St. Rose. My son is in a local jazz ensemble that practices and performs there and he has a lot of connections with the St. Rose students and faculty. I hear good things about their music industry program. He has recorded pieces there and has always had a positive experience. You are right that they have put a ton of money into their music program, between the performing arts center and the new communications center where a lot of the recording, etc., takes place. The performance space is top notch. And, for a small city, Albany has an active music scene.

Just my plug for St. Rose.

Thanks for the input, VMT.

electricbassmom congrats on getting one audition under your son’s belt! My D only auditioned on electric bass as traveling any distance that involves flying limits her to electric only. Best of luck on all future auditions!

Good for you guys! Did your kids feel ready, were there things they didn’t expect?

Ours are all in January, 4 of them within 3 weeks, it looks like.

My S began working with a college prof/jazz musician friend of the family on his audition repertoire last week, they’re meeting weekly. My S is entirely self taught on electric bass so this is going to be interesting…

electricbassmom…we decided against applying to St. Rose because my S just doesn’t want to be in NY (left off Wm Paterson for that reason as well), but I still like the look of it. I look forward to hearing how things go for your son!

musictwins do both of your kids play bass or just your D?

D plays bass, S plays guitar.

Once again congrats and good luck to everyone auditioning this season!!
St Rose: Son did their summer Jazz program for 3 years and summer music camp for 2 years. Their orchestra director is great, enthusiastic and works well with the students. I think they have even made a facebook fan page for him. A friend’s son is in the music industry program there and seems to be thriving. He had an internship last summer and has been offered a full time job when he graduates. St Rose’s program is growing and they have great financial backing. The program is small but they do know all their students and really seem to care.
