Auditions are really freaking me out because i don't know how to read music at all. I just wanted to know if its common that students don't know how to read music or is it very rare?

You don’t have to be able to read music to do your college audition for MT.

However, as someone who is planning to study and have a career in MT, it is indeed important to know how to read music and to be able to sight sing a piece of music. Never too soon to start, though this will be part of your college training. Many students already can read music as they are taught to do so in music/chorus classes at school, or take music theory class, or play an instrument (would be important for you to start learning piano, by the way). But many who enter college still cannot read music.

Again, won’t be necessary for a successful college audition, but it is necessary for someone to be able to do who is going to pursue MT seriously.

Thank you so much, this really helped alot!
