ok…so i recently asked whether which school was ranked higher: GWU or AU. I would probably thrive better in an environment like AU bc its not a completely urban campus…but would i be at a disadvantage career-placement wise if i went to AU considering id have to compete for gwu grads and Gt grads? I plan probably to study political science but perhaps id want a job as a grassroots organizer/interest group, in other words not necesseraly working on the hill. the help is much appreciated!

I chose not to apply to GWU because I really wanted a campus feel. In my experience, AU students are really encouraged to take on internships during the school year as well as the summer, which truly gives them an edge once they graduate. AU students have a great reputation for being very dedicated and hard-working at their jobs in DC.

Since I began at AU I interned for two non-profits, the IRS, and am currently beginning my second year at a consulting firm (where I will be working after graduation as well).

You will, of course, be competing with any student in the DC area (and all over the country during the summer) for internships. However, if you network well, are willing to start at the bottom, and you impress your superiors you will be moving towards your dream job in no time. Good luck!
