Ausgustana college urgent!

Anyone who was admitted to Ausgustana college knows if the school provided generous fin aid to international students??? THANKS!

[Augustana College - Financial Aid for International Students](http://www.augustana.edu/x580.xml)

Augustana is a school that is not on the radar screen of most people on College Confidential; indeed, it is little known outside the Quad Cities and not even known all that much in the Chicago area. You are better off using Google or contacting the school directly. But in general, no, US colleges don’t provide “generous financial aid to international students.” Why should they? There are enough US students who need significant aid.

The CDS that they have posted is a couple of years old, but on that one, they report awarding aid to all but one international student and that the average award was over $11k.

No idea what their current status is, though.

It’s not widely known outside the upper Midwest, but it certainly is well known in the Chicago area. You need to get out more.

Sorry, Annasdad, I disagree. I don’t think it’s widely known even in the greater Chicago area, which I seem to recall that I live in (and have since 1982) and you don’t - aren’t you downstate or in a more rural area?

I lived in Chicago metro (north burbs, northwest burbs, near North, Lincoln Park, West Loop) from 1973 to 1995, continued to work in the area (mainly northwest and west burbs) until 2002, still have in-laws and many friends in the area, have a kid in school in Aurora, listen exclusively to Chicago radio, read both Chicago dailies and one burb rag online daily, and on a good day can be in the Loop in well under two hours. So yes, I know something about Chicago - and can testify that Augie is as well known as say, Knox or Beloit or Carthage or Valpo, or any of the other LACs within a half day’s drive. Perhaps not in your circle, but generally, it’s on a lot of radar screens and quite well-regarded.

“As well known as Knox or Beloit or Carthage or Valpo” is damning with faint praise. I don’t think ANY of those schools are particularly well known. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have something to offer or that they don’t offer quality programs – I’m just talking about awareness here.

Again, you need to get out more and get to know some of us hoi polloi who have neither the means nor the desire to worship at the altar of USNWR.

Hey you two. Please play nice with each other! We midwesterners (Yup, that is a “Native-born Iowan” sticker on my Maryland car) have got to hang together here at CC.

Anyone familiar with the Quad Cities knows Augie. Any ELCA Lutheran in Illinois/Iowa/Minnesota/Missouri knows Augie. Just about anyone who teaches or works in the guidance office of a public school in that region would know Augie as well because they are likely to have/have had colleagues who graduated from there. In other words, depending on how you choose your Chicago-area sample, you can find people who know the school well, sort of know it, and have never heard of it.

What makes you think that I worship at the altar of USNWR? I’ve been quite clear that while I think it provides some useful information, it’s useful only in broad stroke bands, and not in the silly #8-is-SO-vastly-superior-to-#15 level.

As for “getting out more,” you’re also going to have to trust that the vast majority of people I come in contact with wouldn’t know an elite school if it hit them in the face. You’ve conjured up some North Shore socialite image of me which isn’t reality at all.
