Hey all,

not sure if there has been a post of this specifically, but does anyone have any information on Australian undergraduate students have applied for grad school in the US? Or, if anyone knows the process of this in general i.e. competition, grades transfer, Aus GPA conversion to US GPA.

More specifically, I'm wanting to study at Columbia or NYU in a MSRED/MSRE respectively, so if anyone has any information on these programs regarding applications/admissions that would be awsome. As a background, I will finish my undergrad with a B. Urban Development (Property Investment Major) with approx a 3.2-3.4 US GPA equivilant by the time i graduate in November this year and planning on applying by 2011/2012. I've also had 4 years undergrad experience in construction/development industry so would like to know my chances of getting into grad school and what i should be aiming at to get into grad school.

Hope this isn't to brief,

Cheers everyone

You might want to ask this question at the Grad School Forum. If you don’t need support from the university where you would be studying, it won’t matter much whether or not you are international. Your coursework, related professional experience, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, publications, etc. are what count.

If you need money, it is a whole different ball game.

In terms of converting marks to a US-style GPA - check with your uni. I know that for my courses at UNSW, they told me to look at this chart they produced (based on percentage distribution I think):

Since you have a specific school and program in mind, you could consider contacting them directly. Most departments are very open with discussing their requirements and various possibilities with foreign students.

Thanks sikhman, seems like all the information i have sought results in my US GPA equivlant equating to the 3.2-3.3 range.

Re katliamom, I have been planning to call them but just need to get the time to do so with the time zone difference.

You could email them instead of trying to reach them by phone. If they are all off on summer vacation, trying to contact them by phone may not work so well!
