Aussies Unite!

Wow, haven’t been on here in aaaggeeesss! lol. Or it just feels that way…
Discovered today there were two kids in my class also serious about applying to the US (one is transferring to boarding school in NY to finish yr 11 and 12). Strangely, that didn’t comfort me. Just made me feel…common? lol, idk. Was kinda happy I was the only one from my school (supposedly) going to the States. I sound childish… o.O

Anyway, thanks for offering to sell me your books Huanberg.Izzy! I’ll get back to you and I REALLY hope you do great!! Believe in yourself, yadda yadda yadda… Watch Mad about Mambo. You get it ;)

xx

@dragons: In the last 3yrs, there has bin no Ozy at Gburg. Things are unlikely to change.

@Carpe-diem: wow is that person going to a prep boarding school? That’s awesome!! I seriously wish i could apply for year 11 and 12 there but i’m already a year ahead of most of my peers, i can’t really repeat year 11 if i go to the states. :frowning:
Haha and i know how that feels thinking you’re the only one thinking of going overseas. If you go to a competitive private school its probably much more likely you’ll find someone who does too. Funny I was talking to some friends today about going to US for uni and their reponse were like ‘are you crazy?’ lol. If i meet someone who has US thoughts i would happily chat on about it and all the details about SAT,etc. :p

@theGame - thought so lol ill let you know if theres any aussies at my school too

i guess we should include NZlanders as part of our group if there are any. (even more remote)

@Ruby: Omg, I know! lol. I was standing there all sulky like… no fair :frowning: Though I was thinking more about the fact that he was going to NY and not a prep boarding school :stuck_out_tongue: Though the latter is tres` cool as well  Um… do you have MSN by any chance? It would be totally cool to talk to another Aussie eleventh-grader with in’tl ambitions.
And don’t worry about the crazy comment. In fact, get used to it 'cause you’ll get it. A lot. lol.

Well, that’s me for the night. Byeee :D

I know there was at least one other aussie accepted to USC cause she also went to my school… but like she’s not going :(

There were a couple at my school… but I didn’t mind. one I knew was applying for ages and the other ones I was just happy was applying cause we could talk about it and complain about it together haha.

but prep boarding school in NY… argh I would be soo jealous, that must be soo much fun and COST sooo much money haha

@carpe-diem:haha yea i shall get used to it…especially since i probably would’ve reacted the same way, say, two years ago…
prep school or NY boarding school…i’m SO jealoous!!!~lol if only i found this site when i was like in year 8 or 9 and learned about this prep/boarding school world~heh. sigh

Yesterday we went on a bio excursion to Nudgee beach for our summative assessment. It was horrible lol! It was hot then cold and we walked in mud non stop, caught crabs, measured wind/temp and collected data and info on mangroves. Plus i got bitten my mosquitos and ants all over my legs, today they’ve swollen up all huge and itchy arghhh lol. Lucky i don’t have an allergy reaction…

@ruby: aww! lol. I hate the outdoors too. Same thing happened to me last year 'cept we went venturing into some conservation area on the outskirts of Perth. Was red and itchy for a weel - rofl! Still… it was a beach so must’ve been a bit fun, eh? lol

@beeish: Yeah, but his dad is, like, super-rich and owns houses in almost every continent apparently. His family’s moving to the States anyway so the boarding school just convenient. That, and his dad is convinced his son is going to Harvard. Since he’ll be a US citizen by then (dad is a citizen) and he doesn’t require fin.aid (obvi), I reckon he might have a shot. His grades are pretty above decent anyway though he doesn’t seem to believe he has a snowflake’s chance in hell of entry. lulz…

Oh, was wondering if anyone knows whether AP exams are available in Perth?

Much love…

Well I’m actually a New Zealander, but thought I may as well post here as guess my island does not get its own forum.

I applied to:

Brown University- Rejected
Colby College- Accepted
Wesleyan University- Waitlisted
Reed College- Accepted
Macalester College- Accepted (20k scholarship)
University of Chicago- Accepted
Vassar College- Rejected

So will be off to the University of Chicago (hopefully to study economics) in September this year.

If anyone has any questions about applying to the US, I feel like I know a lot now and have absolutely no use for it.

Woww! Chicago for Economics. Congrats from an econFREAK!!! :)

Congrats developed! Did you manage to get any fin aid from UChicago?

@carpe-diem: I suggest you contact US Consulate in Perth to check on APs in perth because that’s how I found out APs are available in Sydney.

Aininor did you do the APs?

carpe-diem they should be available in Perth, probably at the same testing centre as the SATs cause they are all run by collegeboard

Coolio. Thanks guys! I was sure I’d have to fly to, like, Melbourne or Sydney to do it. Idk how I would get that past my parents.

“I need to fly to the other side of the continent, pronto.”
“Why?”
“…to do one test? sheepish smile”

ROFL. Oh, and congrats developed! Econ at UChic? That’s mad awesome! :D

No, I got no FA aid from anywhere, but I don’t qualifiy for aid with my parents incomes.
Got 10k merit aid from Reed and 20k from Macalester, but couldn’t really turn down UChicago for Macalester even with 20K

Reed doesn’t give merit aid.

@developed haha i wish my financial situation was stable as yours! I mean sure my schools good but then i couldve gone to GW with 15k aid

Am I the only one saying “Whoah!” or is this thread dead? Dunno :)

Your right Reed, does not give merit aid,
However my dad’s income is too high for me to be offered any financial aid, and all college told me this (Reed included) with my acceptance. However after sending an letter appealing to Reed they gave me 10k, so while it is officially FA, it is more like merit aid.

@theGame

then why dont u start it up again lol
you a fan of rugby league?

I was a fan of cricket. Not too sure about Rugby league, but sometimes I do catch a Rugby WC Final or two ;)
