Austin housing?

I want to attend UT Austin in Fall of 2009 most likely. I will be a transfer student so I won't know my decision until probably May. So I would like to know what are the apartments near UT campus and what the cost is going to be? I'm willing to spend up to $700-$750 for a decent one bedroom. I don't want to live far my first year. Also I would prefer living by myself since I don't know anyone in Austin. And when would be the best time to sign the lease?

Cheap one bedrooms are hard to come by in West Campus, so you might have to look in North Campus. I am paying around 840(well actually like 920 but it would be cheaper had I signed a 12 month lease) a month for all bills paid apartment one bedroom as far in west campus(Lamar and 24th) as you can get. Its good for the price since I do not have to worry about any bills at all(very good internet, tv, electricty, gas, and water paid) and free parking, and the people are very nice, but the apartment pricing is pretty high here.

Although, I haven't really looked for about 7-8 months and I can definitely see better pricing due to over development of west campus and the housing slump. All I can say is look at a lot of places, figure out the cost of everything after bills, and then make a decision. These newer places are very nice with marble counter tops and stainless steel appliances but a lot of my friends are already have had some issues with the fact that not all the building are completed yet.

There are 2 sides to picking a time to sign a lease. If you want to stay at one of the "mega-complexes," they have been having trouble filling up all the vacancies and I know my old roommates girlfriend got some pretty stellar rates on a 2 bedroom in may or june. However, for the smaller good places, they fill up quickly in Jan, Feb, and March for the Fall so start looking now, and you should find a good deal.
