I am studying at U of Melbourne and my course is 5 years (for bachelor's degree/undergrad). The length of course varies from 3 to 6 years, depending on what you choose to major in.

P.S. Melbourne Uni is not top notch. Neither are the other universities that you claimed them to be.

Anonamous...in Australia they are top notch. Unless you have the money to go overseas they def are what students strive to get in to. Even for those who have the money to go overseas the majority are more than happy to go to these universities. They may not be Harvard or oxford, but the term 'top notch' is highly subjective.

True. The term "top notch" is subjective. When I say top notch I meant the best few in the world, and no university in Australia is among that category. However, they are still decent universities, and some may say that they are top notch, in a different subjective view.

This year, Australian National Uni ranks 16th in the world and University of Melbourne ranks 22nd in the world and these rankings are compiled by the Times Higher Education Supplement. It is true that these Australian universities are not the best few in the world. But then again, most of the unis in the world's top ten are mainly from US and England. Well at least, I will regard that ANU, Melbourne and Sydney uni to be the top notch in australia.

^ despite their placements in THES ranking, I still think that Melbourne is a nicer school to go to than ANU. Besides, a diff of 6 places in a gloabl ranking isn't that significant enough.

From my personal experience of living in Europe people seem to know and respect more The University of Melbourne over ANU. Not sure why though!! It may be due to the location of the universities (Melbourne versus Canberra) or the fact that the research undertaken at Melbourne seems to be better known over here. Which one is consideared the best in Australia?
