I am a junior that plans on applying to Texas A&M first thing next august.

I am oos, top 10%, and have a 1330 SAT.
I called and they said that Academic Admission is for in state and oos, so thats good.

But when I apply, do I still have to submit essays and reccomendations if I qualify for academic admission? Or just my transcript, scores, ect.?

Also, does anyone have an idea on how soon I would hear back if I apply in the first week or so of August, idk if academic admission will let me get the decision faster lol?

Congratulations goalsetter11111 -
Good question. I would either call admissios office - or just do the essays. recomendations are not required.
Have no idea about time you will receive your admission - but no worry, you will be admitted.

Ohhh right right gotcha. Yeah, you should be fine, but I would do the essays (all three of them) because I have heard that if you are on the borderline for a scholarship they will look at anything and everything they can get their hands on and if someone else goes the extra mile to write the third essay then they are showing more interest in the school which = better chance at money.

Okay I will write them for sure then. Thanks!

So to be clear, for academic admits, they only look at top 25% and over 1300 right?

So my ec’s and my grade pattern(I did better fresh and soph than junior so I have a negative grade pattern) dont matter as long as I make those 2 requirements right?

pretty sure that is all they look at in top 25% and over 1300 - with min of 600 in math and critical reading

right off the web site:

Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and
achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and
have successfully taken all recommended coursework, and
ensure all required credentials are received by the freshman closing date.

****** you did take the writting component of SAT, right?
You have taken all reccommended corsework?
You made 600< on both math & critical reading portion of the SAT?

I did take the writing component but got under 600, I dont think that matters though?
And yes I have all coursework and over 600 on the other two.

no it doesnt matter that you got under 600 on writting. If you had not taken the writting component they would not count the scores from that SAT.
You are all set - no worries!

I think you have to do the first 2 essays, but I would definitely do the third if you want a scholarship. We are oos too and D made her 3rd all about how much she wants to go to A&M and why. I guess it worked. She got a scholarship with instate tuition. I would also take the SAT again anyway and keep trying for higher scores. D did well enough for auto admit the first 2 times but finally the 3rd time her scores went way up and I’m sure that helped with the scholarship too. No need for recs, they even say don’t send them unless you are asked. I think auto admits hear back fairly quickly too. D didn’t apply until November and it only took a couple of weeks
(for admission, not scholarships). Good luck!
