I was ranked in the top 9% of my class and qualified for automatic admission for fall 2012. I sent my application August 1 and as of right now mystatus says that I am accepted. So for all of you automatics your time is now!!!!

Congratulations!! Keep in mind, though, that acceptance decisions into competitive majors like business and engineering may take awhile. But, you’ve got the first step licked–you’re in the University.

I’m jealous…lol yay non ranking schools!
Congrats, though Is UT your first choice?

No, TAMU is but I’ll take what I get. Both schools are amazing

Oh thanks for posting this nrskls, I wouldn’t have known that my application was already accepted had it not been for this thread.

However, like txex86 pointed out that acceptance didn’t mean I was admitted into the major I applied to =/
Can anyone tell me how andor when that will be posted and whether I should accept the admissions into Austin if I am uncertain of my admission into the major (business to be precise)?
The note on the application status page had no clear date (“next several days, or weeks … delivered by mid-February”), which I understand, but maybe those experienced can tell us when they usually sent talk acceptance/declines for business major applicants?

Congrats, nrskls! Good luck on your TAMU app!

Vi3tShugo, congrats, too!

Thank you for the congrats and information TXArtemis.

I am curious now though - if acceptance for the major itself can take as long as up until late February then is it still smart to wait if I’m looking to live on campus (San Jacinto dormitory)?
I heard that the dorms, especially first-choice dorms, are hard to get if you apply several months after the process has already started.
What exactly are the “consequences” or pros/cons of accepting admissions now? Am I 100% locked in to that school if I send enrollment deposit now? Also do you know what the criteria for the fee waiver is? I tried to go to a link [url=http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/mystatus/deposit]here[/url for more information on enrollment deposit exemption but I got a 404 page error.

I apologize for bombarding you and the community for these questions. I am going to talk to UT Austin’s admission counselor for my area soon (tried calling on Saturday and today to no avail), but I figured if the information could be obtained sooner then might as well.

^ Yes, it’s definitely a good idea to pay your housing deposit now (it’s payable as early as application completion, so there are plenty of Longhorn hopefuls already on the list and continuing to get on the list, even though they haven’t been admitted). See [Applying to Live On Campus | Be a Longhorn](Housing & Dining – University of Texas Admissions)

Note, however, the $50 housing deposit is non-refundable. So if there is a reasonable chance you will not choose UT, you need to weigh the benefit of securing your place on the housing list vs. the hurt of losing the $50 if you put it down now and did, in fact, decide on another school.

By contrast, the $200 enrollment deposit IS refundable. I’m not aware of any benefit to paying now or penalty if you wait. The whole system is set up to give everyone until May 1 to decide.

I am not sure why you are unable to access the waiver info when you login to your account. Perhaps it is premature, i.e., maybe UT will not reveal those details until they complete your review process and inform you of your major assignment. Or perhaps you haven’t completed FA docs?
