I am confused what is the Automatic EFC 0 requirements for next year FAFSA (to be used for 2014-2015 school year). Any help? Thanks!

If it stays the same… I believe it is income below $30,000 a year. But I’m really not altogether positive.

That FAFSA won’t be available until January 1…no way of knowing if there will be changes.

2013-2014 Auto Zero EFC income was $24000. See http://ifap.ed.gov/efcformulaguide/attachments/091312EFCFormulaGuide1314.pdf

I don’t think USDOE has publish the EFC Formula for 2014-2015 yet.

For this year it was parent income under $24,000 and qualified for a means tested benefit (like TANF or SNAP) or could file a 1040a or 1040ez.
There are some other ways you could qualify but those are most common. You can Google auto 0 efc for a full list.

From what I can see, the EFC will be calculated on % of AAI…starting at 0 for the 2014-2015 school year. I am awaiting confirmation, but here is the link from the feds…

So needless to say, if I worked just Work Study ($5000 max) and am over 24, I should be fine when it comes to 0EFC?

You may have 0 EFC; however, if you don’t have dependent, you don’t qualify for “automatic zero EFC calculation”

See [The NHHEAF Network Organizations- Financial Aid & Money Matters: Zero EFC](http://www.nhheaf.org/index.asp?page=pay_zeroefc)

That is correct … no auto 0 for independent students without dependents other than a spouse. You can qualify for simplified need (ignore assets) if you meet the criteria, but not auto 0.
