It’s not my list! I’m happy to maintain it, but I certainly want to include what makes sense to the collective wisdom here. The “hoops” thing is just my opinion.

The list will become too complicated if it includes things like establishing residency hoop-jumping.

If someone wants to start another list and include such things, they certainly can do that.

Dodgersmom…if the scholarship converts from OOS to instate once residency is established, that’s fine. I wasn’t sure it did that.

I would request that it be added back in using the following language and links:

Utah State
Award: Full Tuition (contingent on establishing residency during first year of attendance)
Residual COA: $9,080/year
Requirements: Sliding scale of GPA+ACT/SAT, ranging from 4.0+31/1360 to 3.5+36/1600 (see chart)

[Utah State University Residency Requirements](<a href=“Page Not Found | Utah State University”>Utah Residency | Admissions | USU)

It does deviate a bit from the standard format, but provides all needed information. The scholarship link also now goes to a page which states both the scholarship criteria and the residency requirement.

*Here is the actual code used for the links:

Dodgersmom, thanks for the following advice: “If you don’t like Utah’s solution, then don’t send your kid to school there,” very profound…

Are colleges looking at weighted or unweighted GPA as the requirement for scholarship money?

^Either unweighted or recalculated using the univeristy’s own weighting system.

^^^ Not true. It varies from school to school. If it’s not stated on the school’s website, call and ask. At least one school I’ve spoken to says it accepts either weighted or unweighted - and does NOT recalculate them.

^^ that’s so bizarrely unfair. Especially if your school uses a non-standard formula for GPA that is not to your advantage :-/

Hi All! Thank you BobWallace for this thread!!! As we begin our search, this will come in very handy!!! My son who is in 10th grade is showing interest in UAB. I saw you had this posted as the following fo UAB:University of Alabama-Birmingham
Award: Full Tuition ($15,000/year, currently covers full tuition – award may not cover future tuition) Requirement: 3.0 GPA, 28 ACT,

As I read on their website this is for OOS (the Blazer Elite) and then for In state it is Presidential Scholarships, Presidential Recognition Awards, and Endowed Scholarships
•From $7,000 to full tuition (up to 15 credit hours per term), required fees, and on-campus housing
•Based on academic achievement (33-36 ACT and at least 3.0 GPA) and submission of the supplemental scholarship application

Golden Excellence Scholarship
•$7,000
•Based on academic achievement (28-32 ACT and at least 3.3 GPA)

It shows for US.Citizens the Blazer Elite and then under Alabama residents it shows the Presidential Scholarship and the Golden Excellence but not the Blazer Elite, so my question is this, is Blazer Elite available to Alabama residents? Sorry, very long way to get to very short question! Thank you!!!

It shows for US.Citizens the Blazer Elite and then under Alabama residents it shows the Presidential Scholarship and the Golden Excellence but not the Blazer Elite, so my question is this, is Blazer Elite available to Alabama residents? Sorry, very long way to get to very short question! Thank you

No. Blazer Elite is for OOS students only. that’s because the award is larger to cover much of the OOS tuition rate. It’s not unusual for a state univ to do that.

*Award: Full Tuition ($15,000/year, currently covers full tuition – award may not cover future tuition) Requirement: 3.0 GPA, 28 ACT, *
*** note that the $15k only covers 12 credits…not 15 credits which is often needed to graduate on time.

^^^
The above would be too much for an instate student with only a 3.0 and 28 ACT. That would cover tuition, room and board.

Are you an Alabama resident? If so, UAB has generous scholarships for instate students:

To be eligible for academic scholarships at UAB, students must be admitted by December 1 of their senior year of high school.New freshmen are automatically considered for all university-wide academic scholarshipsupon admissionto UAB. All scholarships are awarded as funds are available and are renewable for four years.

Presidential Scholarships, Presidential Recognition Awards, and Endowed Scholarships
From $7,000 to full tuition (up to 15 credit hours per term), required fees, and on-campus housing
Based on academic achievement (33-36 ACT and at least 3.0 GPA) and submission of the supplemental scholarship application sent to you if you were admitted to UAB by December 1. *

These scholarships are highly competitive and limited in number. (This means don’t dawdle. Of course, you’re not a dawdler, or you wouldn’t be eligible for one of these anyway.)

Golden Excellence Scholarship
$7,000
Based on academic achievement (28-32 ACT and at least 3.3 GPA)

Thank you mom2collegekids! We are residents of Alabama and I knew I was wishful thinking on the Blazer Elite. :)

mom2collegekids, thank you for the advice and info! It is needed and appreciated!! I can’t reply to your pm, I am not allowed because I don’t have 15 posts. :)

Be aware of any scholarships that are for a specific dollar amount. those scholarships likely will not increase as the years go by and the school hikes tuition each year. When given a dollar amount scholarship, one will likely compare it to the current year’s tuition. That means that when your child actually enrolls the tuition will be higher. And the following years will each be higher. Therefore an award that seems to cover most or half of the tuition, will cover much less by junior and senior years.

[Updated Utah State]

Updated comprehensive list sorted by state.

I have also attempted to calculate the residual cost of attendance (COA) given the scholarship award. NOTE, however, that this was calculated based on each individual colleges published Cost of Attendance, and these estimates may vary in how they are calculated and what costs are included.

Bob Wallace rocks!

Agreed, thanks Bob Wallace! Quick question, besides Lee University, are there any other Tennessee colleges who offer full tuition, etc. for high ACT scores?

^^^
Assured full tuition scholarships? I don’t know of any. Rhodes does have some but they’re not assured. Are you OOS?

All the scholarships I know of are included in the list - so I don’t know of others in Tennessee. The list is only for scholarships available to non-residents, so there may be guaranteed scholarships at state publics if you are a Tennessee resident.

Besides Lee, UTK also gives out full tuition scholarships. With a 32 ACT superscored you get 6k from utk, 4000 from the hope, and 1000 from the GAMS addon. This adds up to be 1-2k more than the cost of tuition.

In-state for Tennessee only.
