Automatic Full Tuition / Full Ride Scholarships

Thanks - this is just the thread I was looking for - I have been doing the same Total COA minus guaranteed money analysis for the past 2 months. One that I found that is not already listed is:

TEXAS
McMurry University
Honor Scholarship
Award: Full Tuition
Residual COA: $11,189/year
Requirements: Top 5% or 27 ACT or 1220 SAT (CR+M) and acceptance into Honors College
Renewable with 3.5 GPA - Does depend on fund availability so apply early.

This is such great info - my son is very interested in bama (thanks to all the help from folks on this site), so if he applies now in August, generally how long until he would find out? he also wants to apply to honors college and fellows program, and the scholarship (he has a 33 ACT and 3.63 GPA). But that doesn’t happen until December is that correct? This all seems almost too good to be true…:)

Is he a rising senior now, upstate? Meaning he wants to apply for fall 2013?

upstate13: Alabama is accepting applications now for Fall 2013. Once you apply then you fill out the scholarship application. There is a deadline for the scholarship application – I think it is before December. The folks on the Alabama board are a fountain of information so you may want to check them out.

This is such great info - my son is very interested in bama (thanks to all the help from folks on this site), so if he applies now in August, generally how long until he would find out? he also wants to apply to honors college and fellows program, and the scholarship (he has a 33 ACT and 3.63 GPA).
If he applies now (the app has been LIVE for over a month), and then submits the scholarship app, and he sends transcripts and scores, he’ll likely be accepted by the beginning of Sept…scholarship award given around the same time.

First you apply (quick and easy app). Then within 1-3 business days, you’ll receive a “follow up email” with log-on instructions to MyBama. Then you’ll have access to the scholarship app. Submit at that point…also easy to do.

Yes, the apps must be submitted by Dec 1st, but those who apply now will get accepted and scholarship awards rather quickly. Bama has rolling admissions, and usually doesn’t take long once transcripts and scores are rec’d.

So…apply to school NOW, then a few days later, submit the scholarship app.

THEN, after acceptance (which should be quick), THEN you’ll have access to the Honors College app (the link will appear on MyBama after acceptance.)

It’s all good…it’s not too good to be true. It is true. Bama will award this to every student who applies that has met the req’ts…the needed GPA, the needed test scores, and applies by Dec 1st. (Int’ls must be ACCEPTED by Dec 1st to qualify, so they should apply NOW since their apps take longer to process)

Again, thanks all so much for the info, he has filed the application for admission and waiting on email notification to file the scholarship app, sent ACT score in when he took them, and so just needs to get his counselor to send his transcripts. What a complete relief and thrill it would be (for me especially i guess!) to have this all set so early senior year. He plays football and has quite a rigorous course load coming up, and so can focus without ‘sweating’. thanks again to everyone!!!

This may be a dumb question, but which U of Alabama campus is the right/best one of Engineering students who wish to take advantage of the merit scholarship and apply to the Honors college?

Tuscaloosa is the main UA campus, with the Honors College (and the Crimson Tide.)

Huntsville and Birmingham are separate universities. Both have worked hard to shed their commuter school roots, but they still lag behind Tuscaloosa as complete universities. That said, UAB houses the med school and thereby excels on the sciences, particularly bio sciences, and UAH excels in engineering due to proximity to government and private research operations. Huntsville also offers the best merit scholarships.

Hey,

Does anyone know what the grade requirements would be for international students? It’s pretty ambiguous as to what any given GPA is equivalent to! (note: not all international schools use a GPA system - in fact, most don’t, save for those “American” ones!)

Are there any guaranteed scholarships for any of the UC schools in CA? Or any guaranteed scholarships to “college of your choice”?

There are no automatic scholarships for “college of your choice” and in fact very few outside scholarships (not for a particular school) that are based on academic achievement alone.

(Removed Hawaii-Manoa)

Updated comprehensive list sorted by state.

I have also attempted to calculate the residual cost of attendance (COA) given the scholarship award. NOTE, however, that this was calculated based on each individual college’s published Cost of Attendance, and these estimates may vary in how they are calculated and what costs are included.

Are there any guaranteed scholarships for any of the UC schools in CA? Or any guaranteed scholarships to “college of your choice”?

No…

The UCs do not have assured merit scholarships. They do have a few Regents and Alumni scholarships, but they often aren’t for very much money. They usually require VERY high test scores. Recipients of Regents often report SATs of 2300 or ACT 35/36.

and, no, there aren’t any assured scholarships that can be used at any school.

These scholarships are offered by the schools to entice students to attend.

Does the Sat scores includes a combine score of both CR and Math to be consider for the scholarship?

Not as large as some posted but Michigan Tech has (2.5 GPA must be maintained to keep this scholarship):

$4500/year for 31 ACT + 4.0 (not sure how GPA is calculated…)
$2500/year for 26 ACT + 3.8
$1500/year for 24 ACT + 3.4

The average for the entering freshman class is 3.62 GPA and 26.4 ACT so it’s a fairly selective school compared to most of the already posted ones. It has a good reputation in Michigan.

[url=<a href=“http://www.mtu.edu/admissions/tuition/scholarships/]Scholarships”>Scholarships | Michigan Tech Admissions]Scholarships | Michigan Tech Admissions/url

Bob – great work, great list. Can I add D’Youville (an independent Catholic college in Buffalo NY?) I got this from their website (sorry it’s not as nice and neat as the previous entries):

Honors Scholarship
Qualified freshmen in the past have had a high school GPA of 88 or better and a combined math/critical reading SAT score of 1100 (or a 24 on the ACT).

Award: 50% off undergraduate tuition and 25% off room and board fees.
Amount: Resident $13,225, Commuter $10,725 per year (based on 2011-2012 rates)
Duration: 4-5 years (depending on length of program), provided that the student maintains a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Academic Distinction Scholarship
Qualified freshmen in the past have had an approximate high school GPA of an 85 and a combined math/critical reading SAT score of 1000 (or a 21 on the ACT).

Award: 25% off undergraduate tuition and 50% off room and board fees.
Amount: Resident $10,362, Commuter $5,362 per year (based on 2011-2012 rates)
Duration: 4-5 years (depending on length of program), provided that the student maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA

ClassOf2015, those don’t sound like they’re necessarily automatic, based on the wording “Qualified freshmen in the past have had…”

This scholarship is not included in the list because it is not purely stats-based. It is based on admission to the McMurry Honors College, which requires attendance and an interview at a scholarship weekend.

As noted by mathmomvt, the D’Youville scholarships are not included in the list because they are not based on defined score/GPA criteria.

As noted in the first post, the purpose of this thread is to catalog Full Tuition or greater scholarships. The Michigan Tech scholarships listed are for less than half of in-state tuition, and only a small fraction of OOS tuition.
