Thanks everyone for a wonderful post, but I don’t think anyone mentioned the University of Pittsburgh. They offer about 10 spots for full tuition and room/board. They will even pay for your travel costs and hotel if you visit (need to be pre-selected). Need a minimum of 1430 on SAT’s (reading and math). They will even give guaranteed admission to their professional schools (med, dental, law, etc).

The reason why no one has mentioned UPitt is because their scholarships do not fit the requirements of this thread. This thread is for AUTOMATIC merit scholarships for certain stats. If UPitt is only awarding 10 merit scholarships, then that is NOT automatic…that is competitive.

The point of this thread is to provide names of schools and their ASSURED full tuition scholarships so that those who want those can know that if they apply to X school with the stated req’ts, then they will get the scholarship. Obviously, that is not the case with UPitt’s offers.

“schools known for good merit aid” might be a good thread for the Pitt info.

^I don’t think 10 scholarships qualifies as “good merit aid” OHMom. Pitt definitely not in the good merit aid category. Extremely competitive to get $1.

Just to clarify, Pitt has many merit scholarships ranging from a few grand to full tuition. They also have the Chancellor’s that is awarded to approximately 10 students. So, they do have good merit awards- they are just not automatic- which is why Pitt is not on this thread.

This is probably the appropriate thread for the Pitt scholarship, and other large competitive scholarships:

To further clarify, this from the Pitt website:

I don’t hink LSU has the Golden Oaks scholarship any more. My son applied and was accepted there and I have checked the non-resident scholarship information . It looks like they changed it to this…I think they hust haven’t updated it everywhere on the website…

Flagship Scholars Award

Criteria: ACT score of 33 to 36 or a critical reading and math SAT score of 1440 to 1600 AND a 3.0 cumulative computed, six semester high school GPA. (not selected as a Chancellors Alumni Scholar)

Award: $13,000 per year plus the opportunity to earn up to an additional $1550 by participating in the Chancellors Student Aide Program.

Chancellors Student Aide Program provides an opportunity for students to work in one of our many departments. Students participating in this program can work up to 20 hours per week to earn up to $1550 per year. The student is paid an hourly wage and paychecks are sent bi-weekly

Golden Oaks is awarded by an LSU alumni group, so it has never been listed under the institutional awards on the university website. (That doesn’t mean they still give the award - I don’t know.)

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this great thread. I’m a senior and I just now started looking at colleges and this helped narrow down my list by a lot.
Oh and University of Alaska Fairbanks offers a full tuition scholarship for students with :
4.0 GPA and 30 ACT/ 2000 SAT

They have a great engineering and wildlife science program (I’m from Alaska)

I don’t see this anywhere on the UAF website . . . can you provide a link, jellyman?

sure. here it is.
[Financial Aid Office | Scholarships](<a href=“Scholarships | UAF, Admissions, Alaska Performance Scholarships | Financial Aid”>Scholarships | UAF, Admissions, Alaska Performance Scholarships | Financial Aid)

if you scroll down and click on the Merit Awards link, you will see:

UAF Nanook Gold Scholarship (merit)

Eligibility:
GPA: 4.0
ACT: 30 or SAT: 2000
Award amount:
Full tuition

I also had a quetion for OP. On the Louisiana State University(Baton Rogue) scholarship page, I couldn’t find any full tuition scholarship for students with test scores of ACT 30. On your link it says “cain department of chemical engineering,” does that mean you have to be a chemical engineering major if you want the scholarship?

Aha - found it!

But it is available only to “a limited number of first-time freshmen and transfer students” - so it is a competitive award, rather than automatic. Unfortunately, doesn’t belong in this thread. It would be helpful, though, if you added it here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/211927-institutional-merit-based-scholarships-full-tuition.html

You must apply to be considered
Passing grade in ChE 2171
3.0 GPA or above in ChE courses
3.0 Overall GPA
Minimum one semester at LSU
Full-time Chemical Engineering Major
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Currently enrolled in ChE Course(s)

Yes, it does appear that the LSU scholarship is for Chem Eng’g majors only.

My son qualifies for the UA Scholars which is 2/3 tuition and also received the offer from College of Engineering for remaining portion. I know you must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester to keep the full amount but is there a GPA requirement to keep the 2/3 tuition portion. I am concerned that there might be one hard semester in engineering and it would be a financial burden to have to pay the full out of state tuition.

hi medialady do you know how he got the college of engineering scholarship? I couldn’t find it in my scholarship application and I’m really confused on how the whole scholarship thing works. I have an ACT score of 30 and plan to major in engineering, which means free tuition and $2500 a year right? So how do I get this? I almost have my scholarship application finished but holding back on sending it in because of this.

Jellyman - The scholarships listed in this thread are AUTOMATIC. That means that if you have the necessary GPA and test scores, and get your application in on time, you will be awarded the scholarship. No hoops to jump through, no special application to fill out. Just make sure that you indicate on your application that you are applying to the College of Engineering.

The scores you’ve indicated qualify you for free tuition at UA, but if you want a shot at the full ride that would potentially be available to you at UA-Huntsville, you should submit an application there also - even if you don’t yet have the necessary scores. Apply now, test later - and you will automatically get the largest scholarship you’re eligible for. (I believe you can test as late as June - and if those scores qualify you for a full ride, you’ll get it.) But your application has to be in now - not later - for this to work.

Scholarship are drastically changed at University of Alabama Huntsville

media lady…Bama doesn’t take away the scholarship if you have one “bad” semester. bama has a back up plan in place. First, the entire YEAR GPA is used (not one semester), then if still too low, then the following Fall’s semester is another chance.

You get the two scholarships by getting your scholarship app in NOW. What the heck are you waiting for? Waiting is illogical. Get the scholarship app in and you’ll get the two scholarships.

SEND IT IN. Sending the scholarship app in is FREE. Get it in!

The eng’g scholarship is NOT listed on the app, so don’t look for it there. Just get the app IN.

For students enrolling as freshmen for the 2013-14 school year, UAH merit awards have indeed been drastically reduced.

[For out-of-state students:](http://www.uah.edu/financial-aid/aid/scholarships/new-freshmen/non-residents-merit-awards)

The awards no longer cover either full tuition or a full ride (tuition/ room/board/books/fees) as they have for the past several years.

[For in-state students:](http://www.uah.edu/financial-aid/aid/scholarships/new-freshmen/resident-merit-awards)

The highest merit award ($15,750) falls about $1,700 short of covering tuition/room/board/fees (not taking into account any cost increases for next year).

The second-highest merit award ($9,250) covers tuition, but falls a few hundred dollars short of also covering student fees (again, not taking into account any cost increases for next year).

You can compare to the costs of attendance for both in-state and out-of-state students [url=http://www.uah.edu/financial-aid/tuition-cost]here[/url].
