Think about this.....4 years of undergrad and it looks to me like you better focus on employment with a company that might actually be in business and making money in 6 years. I can see your mention of BMW but not Ford or GM. Maybe you should follow the business news while you study your engineering. We do need young innovative minds but why work for two companies that have demonstrated little interest in innovation??

I'd have to agree with hazmat that you may want to read the news when considering what company to work for. In addition to BMW, I'd suggest Porsche, perhaps Mercedes or almost any of the Asian brands.

so where's a good college to go to for this type of field?

I'm not so sure about the engineering side, I know some people who work in car design though, but thats more from the "art" side.

I would look at engineering schools, most reputable programs should have an automotive division.

Car companies need people with all sorts of different skills, not just electrical and mechanical engineering. You will be better off to concentrate on the areas that interest you most.

Western Washington has a program in their Engineering Technology Dept. -- the Vehicle Research Institute. http://www.etec.wwu.edu/

Clemson has a relationship with BMW. they are about 15 miles apart in South Carolina. Nice small campus on a major lake. Semi rural but only 30 minutes from UGeorgia and Athens. 100 miles from Atlanta.

Cincinnati has a co-op relationship with BMW in Germany. They touted it during their information session. You must be able to converse in German though.

what about University of Michigan and Kettering University? What are some of the goods and bads of both universities?
