I am doing research on private day schools in NYC area and came across Avenues the World School. It seems to be a new school lead by people who used to work at top private day and boarding schools. Does anyone have experience or insights on this school? Would be great to hear from a current student in middle or upper school as well.

I don’t have children there but I’ve toured it and many of my friends have toured it. It’s not for everyone. Some people are impressed immediately by the staff they hired but many are reluctant because it has no history…no driving record. The school has left a bad taste for many of us as they tried recruiting many of the celeb families from our privates schools (I have children in two different private schools). Forget about going after the top students at our school…it was the celebs that they were trying to recruit. It’s either very disliked by many or some love it. It was too sterile for us and we didn’t care for the “for profit” aspect of it…plus it wasn’t a good fit for my child (I toured when they first opened out of curiosity and knowing in a few yrs we would be applying to HS. I would say…if you can tour…do it. You will find that all privates in NYC have ppl who love them and hate them just as much. I don’t want to say any more because it really has to be your opinion and what I like in a school may completely be different than what you like or look for. GL
