Does anyone what is the average age of graduating JDs (i.e. when they start work)?

I think the avg age of incoming law students is 25 (i dont have the data, but i have heard that somewhere), so they should graduate by 28

I have seen the same figures as above, 25 average start and 28 graduation age, but do not remember where. Only about a third of law students go to law school directly from college.

thanks everyone. i read that somewhere too and remember it was around 25. but can someone find the source of this data? i really want to know

^just curious, but why are you so concerned?

The average age will likely be higher than the median age. Back when I was at Boalt, I believe the the median age for first year students was 24, and the average was 25.

It varies by law school. In general, the higher up the totem pole, with the notable exceptiom of Northwestern, the lower the median age.

According to the guide for prospective employers issued by Harvard Law, the median age for those who entered the law school in 2004 was 24. (I just googled.) Others found --years vary--U of Denver-25; U Balimore (day division) 27; WUSTL 23; William & Mary 24; UVa 24; UHawaii 26; Colorado 26; U New Mexico 26; UTennessee 23.

USC pre-law site says the median age for all entering law students is 25.

I'd suggest looking at the data for the particular schools of interest to you. Most law school publish a median age rather than an average one.

just a question. when it says the median age is 24, does it mean 23 turning 24 or 24 turning 25? =P

If I were drafting a contract to cover this, I'd put this in the "Definitions" section:

"'Age' means, with respect to a student, the aggregate number of anniversaries of the date of birth the student has celebrated, ignored, denied, or otherwise experienced.

so, 24 means 24 turning 25?

This is the weirdest thread ive read in a while.

Why is it so so important whether its 24 going on 25 or 23 goin on 24?
