I'm transferring from a college in quarter system to a college on the semester system. What is the about the number of classes or credits do you all take in a semester? So far I've signed up for 4 classes/12 credits. I'm wondering if should take one more..

Most people take 5 classes so 15-16 credits. You can try 4 and see how it goes, if it’s too easy then take 5 next semester.

Where I go it is recommended you take 12-18 a semester. 95% of people will stay within that range, and maybe 5% will sometimes take more than 18 (those percents are just guesses). 16 credits a semester is considered to be the “standard” credit load, because if you came in with no credits, you would need to average 16 a semester to graduate in 8 semesters.

Twelve credits sounds low. It is on the lowest end of what is recommended. Unless you have a reason why you would be unable to handle more (employment, new school is significantly harder than the old one, other responsibilities) I would recommend you take more.

Thanks for the replies. I added my classes based off what my advisor recommend I take. It was going to be 13 but I was able to get credit for a 1 credit lab I took at my previous college. I know she intentionally spaced out some of my major classes so it wouldn’t be too hard.

I’m used to taking only 3 classes in 3 months…which is the standard in quarter systems. So I’ll probably be fine with 5 or 6 classes in 5 months.

Yeah I’ve taken 4/5/5, and I’m taking 6 next semester. 12 hours is the lower limit for full-time student status, which kinda looks like slacking off, if nothing else. Just take a fun elective or something if your adviser doesn’t have any other suggestions.

I know why she did it now looking over the notes she wrote down for me. I can’t apply for my major until Fall 2011. And I’m only taking pre-requisites for the major and I need enough credits to spread across the next 3 semesters to be at least full time before I apply. I don’t have enough credits to screw around with as I am changing majors.

Thank you all! I’ll see if I can fit in a course that didn’t transfer nicely lol.
