What is the class size of most of your classes at the Emory campus and Oxford campus?
Oxford campus has substantially smaller class sizes. Classes at Oxford will have about 25 for introductory STEM classes that are required for medical/grad school and for freshman writing classes and usually quite a bit fewer students for humanities classes and social science classes that are not required.
Emory campus has more students per class. You might see 80 students per section at Emory campus in intro STEM classes compared to the 25 at Oxford campus.
Class attendance and participation are expected and required at Oxford campus but you will also get to know your professors a lot better too.
I think intro to chem/bio hovered around 100?(ish) at Emory and I believe my friend told me it was around 30-35 at Oxford.
@klb222 : As you can tell by the other posts, the main difference is in the lower division courses (minus physics) where Emory is bigger. Despite this, Emory’s lower division courses are basically the same size as the “smaller” (say, a Chicago, Princeton, or Rice) peer and aspirational peer institutions and are generally MUCH smaller than similar sized peer institutions (Duke and Vanderbilt have similar student body sizes for example). You are actually much more likely to see a very large intermediate or special topics course than lower division. This is typical for extremely popular courses such as Drugs and Behavior and Arab-Israeli Conflict. These courses and the instructors that teach them are such hits that they draw students from many majors and disciplines.
