Average entertainment budget

He spent more than 3-5K in a month? Is that a joke?

I won’t even spend close to $1000 in the year. And yes, it’s my own money. My parents pay for everything I ‘need.’ I pay for everything I ‘want.’ I will be graduating with 0 debt, and personally I’d rather have a nest-egg built up. I make ~$2500 a year with my campus job.

I spend max $100 a month on anything that would be considered ‘entertainment’ - but it’s usually much, much less than that. Your son needs to learn how to find free things to do. And yes, there are plenty of free things in NYC.

I will note, however, that unless you have his approval, you have no place cleaning out his account.

^^^No he didn’t spend that in a month. But if he continues to spend at that pace he would far exceed $5k for the school year. This is why I wanted to get a feel for what other college students were spending. I needed a gauge as to whether his spending was as ridiculous as I thought.

And northstarmom, I’m not seeing red flags that he’s in the wrong major and worried he will end up unhappy because he is unable to support himself in the manner to which he is accustomed. He’s got some money properly invested from his work as a professional child actor and he actually does know what he’s getting into from his years in the business. I’m seeing red flags for the here and now because there isn’t any money coming in although there is always the possibility of residuals.

But thanks guys, I appreciate the help. You are all welcome to continue talking about spending money in college but now that I have the info that I need, I need to speak to one person about the problem and he is not on this forum.
