they seem to leave people with about 10,000 or a little less in loans per year plus the parents contribution plus your summer savings (2800)

They meet 100% need so it is definitely worth applying and seeing what you get.

Cornell gets to define your "need," though.

I don't know about anybody else, but this is spot-on for me (9.8k in yearly loans).

same here 9.9 in loans that sucks. is it worth it to appeal?

my loan's def higher than 10K

We’re not considering things like summer savings and parents contribution, how does that play out in terms of your aid packages? just out of curiosity… and yeah 10k seems to be the general amount for loans… that’s what I got as well!

That's horrible >.< 30,000-10,000 = 20,000

.< Still too expensive ...

^ Did u miss the 100% need met? They meant loans are the WORST part. The rest is grants. (and work study). Then you parents pay watever their efc tells them they can.

Figgy: I think the part that cannot be missed is that Cornell decides how they will meet 100% need. It seems to be that just about all packages include in the neighborhood of $10,000 in loans per year. It should have been a clue when I went back and read a current financial aid brochure. It described some typical packages for students. Even the student whose family income was around $50,000 was expected to borrow $10,000 per year. Did your package not include loans in that amount?

No they did. But wat I'm saying is THE REST were grants and then a work study while my parents are paying their efc. So it was a good package.

Thanks, Figgy. In our situation I did not think it was a "good package." Paying EFC. Fine. Borrowing the max. Stafford loan. Fine. Having a work study for $1000-$2000 range. Fine. What I don't think is fine, is the additional loans on top of that.

no, i think 10k in loans pretty much suck. all my other colleges only expected me to take out like 3-4k in loans and gave a lot more grant money.
figgy bear with me but, i hope you realize you have to actually pay back the loans.

just wondering if anyone appealed and if u got more money?
can we appeal next year?

Maybe it's just so good for me because that's the amount of loans I had at a lesser college so I was happy that they stayed around the same even though Cornell is more expensive.

good point. i guess i should be happy im going to cornell. though im still annoyed by the amount of loans..

i know what you mean, I am depressed about it. But actually, cornell gave me a better package than like...GT/VT and a bunch of others...so, yeah.
