Average GPA and test scores for William and Mary

What is the average GPA and SAT/ACT test scores of accepted freshmen at william and Mary? If you guys dont know the average, then please tell me what would be good enough to get accepted. Does anybody know what they tend to look at in someones application? What extracurriculars would impress them?

I don’t think W&M has an average GPA, just because a lot of high schools calculate GPA differently. A strong applicant will have mostly A’s and some B’s. The SAT/ACT information is available online, but I believe the mid 50% is roughly in the 1250-1450 range, and equivalent on the ACT (28-32 or something?)

W&M prides itself in looking at the entire application, not just scores. For extracurriculars, they like to see that you are passionate about something, and that you have pursued leadership positions where appropriate.

^thanks, great answer

David, soccerguy is correct. We do not have an average GPA because GPAs are calculated on so many different scales in so many different ways so there’s no real standardized way to compare them. Instead we look at you within the context of your individual high school when evaluating the classes you took and the grades you got. A comparable measure might be class rank. 80% of those at W&M graduated in the top 10% of their class.

The middle 50% on SAT (Critical Reading + Math) is 1280-1430 and 28-32 on the ACT. We do look only at your best score.

We are, as SoccerGuy said, holistic so there’s no point system or formula to our evaluation process although we do put a bit more emphasis on the transcript than other parts. The required parts of the application that we consider for all students are transcript, SAT/ACT, extracurricular activities, recommendation(s) and the essay. There are also optional components: interview, optional supplement, fine arts submission. We also look at more intangible factors like leadership potential, special talents, perspectives, background, etc.
