What is generally considered a "normal" (not grade-inflated or deflated) GPA for a university? Mine has an an average, all undergrad GPA in the 2.9 range--is that pretty "normal"? Just curious.

Thanks.

It varies absurdly depending on school and major. Theres no way anyone could give you a real answer on what the average would actually be, but a 2.9 seems like it would be a high. But this is an engineer talking.

Talking with people about GPA's and looking on Pickaprof.com, I would say around 2.5.

It's probably around 2.7 at my University, including all undergraduates. But yeah, not really sure. And it varies a lot by major.

The data in this is a few years, but it should give you a decent idea as to what is the total average GPA for certain schools

National Trends in Grade Inflation, American Colleges and Universities

It's a 3.0 at my school. I have looked at GPA's in the past, and inflation has definitely taken effect here.

I think the average GPA here is somewhere in the 3.0-3.3 range from people I've talked to, though I really have no idea.

I've heard at most schools its a little above a 3.0. Intro classes tend to be curved to a C+/B- (2.5ish), but upper division courses generally have much higher curves. This is especially true in the humanities (we engineers still suffer).

Here it's 2.79. That's overall. For men it's lower (about 2.6) and it's higher for women (almost 2.9). There also seems to be an increase throughout the years, so that freshman have the lowest GPAs overall, and seniors the highest. Senior women's GPAs last fall were above a 3.0.
(this all comes directly from my school's website, I'm sure if you all looked you'd be able to find something similar)

I guess Wash U isn't as hard as people think. 3.41

2.9 for engineering is NOT high
