Average GPA in UVA?

Some colleges have class averages that are bell curved to a C average. Does UVA have the same bell-curve grading system? If so, what is the average in UVA?

If not, what is the average GPA amongst students in UVA? And/or what is the average GPA of freshman students after two semesters?

Thanks!

This will help answer some of your questions:
[UVa - Undergraduate Grade Point Averages](http://www.web.virginia.edu/iaas/data_catalog/institutional/data_digest/acad_gpa.htm)

McIntire Avg is a little higher than a 3.4. Grades range B to A. Hard to get Cz

Sciences (like pre med classes) are usually curved on a bell curve to a B-. Only 10-15% get As or A-s

The humanities classes here aren’t that hard. I think a lot average at the B/B+/A- area from what I’ve been through and heard people talk about. Sciences on the other hand are usually at a C+/B- and sometimes lower.

My RA said the comm school is hard to get into but easy to stay in. He said the classes are usually at a B+.

More or less correct. Part of it is that you need to be pretty smart/hard-working to get in, so there’s a lot less people just “casually” in class. However, I think another aspect is that for many competitive jobs after college (banking, consulting, accounting, etc.) GPA plays a big part in even being considered, and McIntire doesn’t want to hurt its students in that aspect. That’s not to say that they inflate grades, but they definitely don’t hurt you on a curve.

I only had one psych class that curved, but it curved to a B instead of a C in the middle.
