Average GPA of 07-08 incoming freshman?

Hi,

I've come across two figures of high school GPAs of the 07-08 incoming freshman at UCLA. However, they are not the same, and I was wondering what made up for the big difference.

In here:
<a href="http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucla.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucla.html</a>
it says this:
Average high school GPA: 4.14

However, in here:
<a href="http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=7826%5B/url%5D">http://www.newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=7826</a>
it says this:
"Academic characteristics for admitted freshmen remained strong. Admitted students had an overall grade-point average — including honors and advanced placement courses — of 4.30, compared with 4.26 last year."

Why are the two GPAs, 4.14 and 4.26, so far apart?
Thanks.

I think the 1st one is capped @ 8 extra points and the other one is fully weighted, not sure though.

4.14 is the capped UC GPA.
4.26 is (was) the uncapped weighted GPA.

Oops, I meant 4.30, not 4.26. =P

Also, do the UCs look primarily at the UC GPA, or do they consider the UC GPA and the uncapped weighted GPA equally?

The UCs look primarily at the UC GPA. Then they check your weighted GPA.
