I’ve heard a lot about UMASS Amherst getting more selective and the entering class average GPA being 3.8, and was wondering if UMASS is starting to become a reach for people like me (3.5 GPA as of junior year which goes up to 3.65 if you leave out my shitty-as hell freshman year/~2100 SATs). It seems like the GPA and SATs are pretty much all that count, since UMASS doesn’t have holistic admissions. Am I still in with a chance?
Yes, UMass is becoming more selective, but I think you still have a great chance! I was admitted early action this year, and I will be attending this fall! I got in with a 3.78 UW GPA and a 2000 SAT, but I also had 5 total APs and a lot of extracurriculars/leadership/volunteer work that I think UMass definitely took into consideration. A 2100 SAT is great(better than mine), and if you still want your GPA to move up, you should probably apply regular decision next year so that you can apply with good 1st semester senior year grades. I hope this helps!
Thanks! I have some pretty good extracurriculars/volonteer stuff and APs, so I guess I stand a chance. Thanks!
I’m pretty sure the 3.8 is their recalculated GPA. I think you’re in
