anybody know the average gpa on a 100 point scale? My school does it on that scale. When i put all my grades into an online calculator it came out to a 4.14 but I am not sure how reliable it is.
The “average GPA” stat is meaningless. It averages together students on so many different scales that should not be used in your decision making process.
I’ve been writing about GPA for years on the admission blog. It might help to look through those posts. Here’s a fun one: http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/2015/03/i-dont-care-about-your-gpa.html
For UVA (in-state) you should be in the top 10% of your class for a reasonable chance at admission (unhooked).
Many schools have done away with reporting rank to colleges.
@“Dean J” :
Grade inflation + No ranking = Much confusion for AOs, since there is no baseline to establish whether someone’s GPA means anything.
Eh, I wouldn’t say there is “much confusion” when a school doesn’t report rank. One of my counties hasn’t ranked in years and I don’t find their transcripts any less clear.
Ranking and GPA methodologies are so different from place to place that we weren’t leaning on those numbers to make decisions anyway.
