Average GPA?

Is there anyway I can find the AVG GPA of the incoming class to Tufts Undergrad? I was just curious because i am a rising senior and my gpa is only a 3.6...should i be worried if i apply ed? I am planning to work extra hard senior year as well...k thanks

a 3.6 will be very low - Tufts incoming GPA will be roughly the same as those at G-town, JHU, etc. A few undoubtedly squeek by, but for the most part you'll need a high GPA/high rank.

I had a 3.5 unweighted and a 4.2 weighted when I applied ED I, since I took 10 AP's by graduation. As long as you have inventive EC's, solid test scores, and have taken hard classes, you will have a chance with your 3.6, as long as it's unweighted and you apply ED and truly show interest in the school (go to info session, write optional essay, email them, etc.) Good luck!

if the 3.6 is unweighted then that is fine as long as you took a challenging courseload

Well, my gpa is actually around a 3.64 unweighted if that makes any difference...umm how challenging is challenging? I took 6 aps Junior Year and am taking 6 more senior year...(AP Phyiscs B, AP Bio, AP Spanish, AP US, AP Language, AP Stat- Junior year)( AP PHysics C, AP Chem, AP Macro, AP Lit, AP Psych, AP Calc BC- Senior)...thanks for the replies btw

3.64 with 12 AP's is great...and yeah that is challenging enough lol. Just keep it up senior year and you should be fine

I agree - Of course, the higher the GPA, the better. But, if you're taking something like 10-12 AP's (like Duffman), then that (of course) irons things out a bit.

How much do EC's matter at a school like Tufts? I got accepted into that Columbia Science Honors Program...how significant is that? Just curious...thanks.

I looked at those that got into Tufts from our high school web site that lists admission by GPA and SATs. With your 3.6, you will need close to a 1400 (math and verbal) on the SATs or ACT equivalent and frankly it looks like you would need closer to 1450 or more on the SAT (math and verbal combined).

That's good because my math verbal is 1440, and I'm planning to retake them and get above a 1500...Also, I am taking the ACT's and plan to get around a 34. I don't know, but for some reason I still feel as if my chances aren't that great if i apply ED.

EC's are important enough. They want to know that you're interested and passionate, not just about grades but about other things. And of late it's no longer impressive enough to just be yearbook editor and track captain (though leadership positions are important, which is why i CLUNG to my lit mag editorship, haha) - they're looking for really weird ****, to distinguish you and add diversity. I mean, I'm a white girl from NJ but I had some cool EC achievements like competing internationally for latin dance and playing piano in Carnegie Hall, so maybe I appealed more than the run-of-the-mill newspaper editor/soccer player.

yay for litmag editors! i was the editor of my high school's literary magazine :D

and also, Trugangsta627, I would take advice given in this forum into consideration, but also I would relax about it, because we (as students of Tufts) are not experts on the admissions process. yes, we went through it ourselves, and got in, but because we aren't the admissions officers, we don't know exactly what kind of person/student will appeal to them.

my advice is to present yourself in the best way that you can, give yourself enough time to complete the applications in a way that makes you proud of what you've written, and let Tufts know that you are really interested in their school - write the extra essays, go to the tufts meetings when tufts comes to visit schools, or talk to tufts reps when they go to college fairs.

i took 10 APs in high school, and that was a lot for me to concentrate on, so you sound impressive to me. i'm sure that you will get into a lot of good schools, and i hope that i'll see you on campus one day, who knows?

lol, my school only let APs senior year (with the exception of AP History) so I had five total and I was fine.

definitely talk to Tufts reps! My favorite RA graduated this year and ended up employed by Tufts admissions, and he is seriously an amazing guy, DEFINITELY the person I would want representing Tufts (and reading my application). But you just have to make sure that your application represents YOU as best as possible - the whole, "the schools you belong at are the ones that accept you, b/c they recognize your qualities" thing only works if you really do present yourself accurately in your app.

Good luck!

Arite, thanks for all the advice guys. Tufts is certainly my number one choice, and if I put all my time and effort into the application, I think and hope I will do fine. Thanks again.

I have a 3.6. My grades are actually good and that ranks within the top 10% of my school. I am not too worried about it. I just hope the fact that I already did a study abroad - looks good to Tufts.

I don't think you should worry if your GPA is a 3.6. I'm not. Hopefully you have other good things to back it up with!

Schools are different across the nation. At my school it was pretty difficult to take 2-3 AP courses at one time while maintaining a life, but some schools on the east coast make 5 APs mandatory for elite admissions.
