so this may seem like a stupid question, but i was just really curious...
what's the average gpa for students in lsa?

3.7

I’m not sure.

i heard it’s more like 3.2

How about in Engineering? Usually how much does it take to get into prestigious grad programs … and is it hard to get an A at UMich?

hahaha wow coolbrezze what a terrible guess… let’s try a 3.2

^give coolbrezze a break!! Coolbrezze is a HS junior from what I remember.

around 3.2 for LSA.
around 2.7-2.8 for engineering. For engineering grad programs, the good ones you need 3.5s. The superior ones you need 3.7.

Its 3.2 for LSA and 2.8 for Engineering last I heard. Also, for Graduate Programs, they will “consider” you for admissions into their program if you have a 3.2 for the lower level programs and 3.5 for upper level programs. However Most admissions is around the 3.5-3.6 mark.

and what about premed students?

Coolbreeze may have thought they were asking for average Highschool GPA for admitted students into LSA (which is what I thought the question was at first until I saw all the responses).

^
even if he thought that, 3.7 is off.
the average would then be a 3.85/3.9ish

and for premed students, i believe most bio/chem are curved to a B- which is a 2.7.
there are many weeder classes so you must be a somewhat strong student if you wish to pursue the premed route.

ok thanks guys. and yeah i guess i should’ve worded my question better

Well according to their website it’s 3.8 for the '08-'09 year. And being .1 off isn’t a huge amount.

^ ummm no…
“52% of students with a 3.9 GPA or higher”
so that makes the average >3.9.

That’s for the college as a whole… For just LSA:

3.80 Median high school recalculated GPA

According to the ROTC handbook, “For your information, the average freshman grade point average is about 3.0.”

Wait. Why are some people saying ~3.8 and some people saying ~3.0
That’s a huge difference.
We’re talking about the grades of students in the University. Not their high school grades right?

Also, for premed, is it okay for the avg GPA to be that low? Don’t you need at least a 3.5 to be a contender for medschool?

Concretepencil, We’re talking about both. Except in Coolbreeze’s case, it’s should be easy to tell what they’re talking about.

Anything in the high-3s is reffering to High School. The ones in the high-2s and low-3s are reffering to in college.

^Based on what I’ve heard, you’d be a genius if not a near-legend if you had a 3.8 or 3.9+ at UMich.
