average junior

I'm a junior and want to know what my chances are at certain colleges. I slacked freshman year and regret it now. I'm a first generation student and asian if that matters.
Major: aeronautical or aerospace engineering/mechanical engineering

freshman year gpa: 2.625, weighted 2.875
sophmore year gpa: 3.745
junior year gpa: 1st semester 4.00
overall gpa: 3.56, weighted 3.65
Note: I didn't take AP or honors during sophmore or junior year only CP, but I will take it senior year. My freshman year I took honors.

PSAT:148
Plan to take SAT and ACT in April. I know I need to improve my score.

ECs:
JV girls soccer-most improved player award
CSF
volunteered at gospel mission and carnival for CSF
science olympiad
academic decathalon
Track-long distance

colleges:
UCSD
UC Irvine
UC Davis
San Jose state
san diego state
Cal poly-SLO
USC

any suggestions of other colleges is appreciated. Thanks
compared to the other kids in the forum, it seems I haven't done alot.:(

hey I slacked freshman year too...lol :[

UC's AND CSU's DO NOT COUNT FRESHMAN YEAR...lucky us

so take out freshman year, calculate your UC GPA and I expect it will be higher

that gives you a great chance at al these schools

ok 1480 on SAT won't look good. raise to at least 2000

if you can't

take the ACT and try that

if you have a 2000

then I say you'll get into Davis

2100= UCSD and CAL POLY SLO

2150+ = USC

1700= San jose state and possibly USD

only because none of those schools take freshman year

so don't worry

btw which hs do you go to?

good luck w/ everything :]

2000 for davis is pushing it, that sounds a little high
same with a 2100 for ucsd, i'm sure it'll be much lower for that school, possibly in the 1800 range

as for 2100 for cal poly slo, even though it's a great school, that's far too high for cal poly slo

flip259:

UCSD: Reach (Engineering)
UCI/UCD: Match

colleges:
UCSD - rejected
UC Irvine - admit
UC Davis - maybe admit
San Jose state - admit
san diego state - admit
Cal poly-SLO - they DO count freshman year - rejected
USC - rejected

um...The CSU people came to my school and said they DO NOT count freshman year, I know Cal Poly is in its own league, but STILL is a CSU

If you are really interested as far as CSU is concerned: http://www.dwang.5gigs.com/The%20California%20State%20University.ppt

its a powerpoint the guy gave us

they DO NOT need SAT II's and they only count Math and Verbal SAT I's

ok, i know those were PSAT's, but 1480 will not even cut it for UCI

if you really want to be competent

get a 2000

The average for UCSD is 1900+ range

UCSD has BECOME a lot harder, there are far tooo many 4.0 2200 students out there

and you will need more than clubs for ec's

if you were majoring in dance for example, I would say good shot as of now

but engineering= ultracompetitive

righ now, you will get into SJU and USD

SAT scores, for the UC's counts quite a bit. You have a solid GPA, make SAT go higher to complement the GPA

:]

cal poly DOES count freshman year, and algebra I and foreign language if you took it in middle school. trust me. i asked. twice.

are you sure

look at the link

they DO NOT count it

unless SLO is different from the other CSU's

SLO is a CSU, but maybe since it stands apart the standards are also different

but i don't think it would make sense for SLO to be different

http://www.dwang.5gigs.com/The%20California%20State%20University.ppt

look at the powerpoint

it CLEARLY says they DO NOT take freshman year.

that powerpoint also says that 14 of the top 20 western public universities are CSUs, and on the SJSU slide says SJSU is #1 public.

dont take that powerpoint as if its the bible.

i asked a SLO admissions rep in person, twice, got the same answer, im sticking to it. im not going to argue that any more with you.

actually, never mind.

for some majors they DO take freshman year.

so you win

lolz.
