I just got my SAT I scores back from when I took them earlier in June. I was wondering what can be considered "average" for the new test.

The average is around 1500. People from this site, however, score very high because (not to be arrogant, but honest) this site is where the academic cream of the crop hang out. Many of them have a hard time believing that 1500 is average, and are convinced that the average is like 2200! This is NOT true... The problem is that all of the SAT scores posted on this site are in the upper range, and therefore in their heads they just average those together and some believe that that's the real average, when really, it's probably 700 points lower... I hope this makes some sense... I just got back from work and I'm exhausted.

between 1500 and 1600

Ya, I was really surprised when I learned that the average was that low. (Also, I heard that the average is around 1600, isn't it?) I would think the average was around at least 1800-1900.

Average is slightly above 1500, but not much. 1540 at the absolute highest, but i'm assuming more around 1510/1520.

I'm surprise to hear that! All of my friends scored around 1900 and were really bummed out about it and that really scared me when I got a 2010! Thanks for all of your help!

a 2010 is about 500 points above the average score... Congratulations. ;)

See for my friends (and I guess myself included) a 2010 would make us feel "bummed out". It seems that all the good schools seem to want at least a 2100 or 2200........and the people on this forum seem to do so well that I also feel a little put down about the whole SAT.....

I feel your pain harvardorbust07. Even though my SAT score is supposedly good, my GPA is only decent, and I hardly have a EC's. So, basically, I feel put down about the whole college process.

Wow, thats kinda a bummer for me then. The highest you can gets a 2400 now right? Mine was only a 1590. Although it was my first time taking it, I only have so much time left since this will be my senior year. Did any of you Study for the SAT?

lol we ALL studied one way or another. very few people can go in to the test and just do well, this only goes to show that the SAT measures how well you take the test not how well you can apply ur knowledge =/

College board estimated the average to be 1530.

Well, since the old average was a little above 1000, and there are 1.5 times as many points now, a new average of a little above 1500 makes sense.
