Hi! I was hoping you guys could help me figure out if I’ve done an okay job with taking AP classes. My school is very small, and while its known in the area for strong academics, it doesn’t offer many APs.
For reference, I estimated the # of people in my grade (about 45) who have taken each class.
I’ve taken/am taking:
AP Spanish (12 students)
AP Lit (19 students)
AP Lang (18 students)
AP US History (25 students)
& will self study for Gov
I have not taken:
AP Art (4 students)
AP French (20 students)
AP Physics (4 students)
AP Calc (18 students)
Instead, I’ve taken more Honors classes in other areas because Physics & Calc are my weak points, and I don’t take French or Art.
Will colleges look at this & think I haven’t taken full advantage of the AP opportunities?
Thanks for the help! Hope you’re all having a great weekend!
Unless you are applying to super-competitive colleges, I think any college would be happy to see an applicant take 5 AP tests and do well on them. If you aren’t strong in a subject I think you’ve done the right thing in not taking the AP class. Looks good to me.
That’s really a question for your GC since s/he is the one who will be rating your schedule on the secondary school report. However, I will tell you that colleges will view your schedule in the context of what is offered in your school. So, if your school only offers 8 AP’s, no college will expect you to take 12. In the context of your own school, nobody will expect you to take AP French if your foreign language is Spanish, nor AP Art, if that’s not your strength. The only one I would possibly question would be not taking calculus. But that also depends upon which colleges you are targeting.
@classof2020ny thanks for the feedback!
@skieurope thanks for all the help! I’ll make see to talk to her. Yeah, I took Pre Calc last year and ended up with an 89, so I didn’t qualify for AP Calc unless I appealed. Instead I’m in regular Statistics and have a 95, which is probably way better than whatever grade I would have recovered inAP Calc. Thank you for the help
