Average SAT/ACT scores for WPI

Hi everyone:

Can you guys post your SAT or ACT scores for admission to WPI? My S2 is a h.s. Junior, but right now WPI looks like his first choice and I want to have an idea what the average scores are that they require and what current kids who are applying have as scores too.

Thanks!

I think the best way to get good data is from the common data set:
https://www.wpi.edu/Images/CMS/IRO/WPI_CDS_2012-2013.pdf</a>
Section C9, page 10 has lots of good information about SAT and ACT scores of actual WPI first years.

Thanks so much, flips! :)

I am printing it out now…all 36 pages! I perused it very quickly, but it seems as if my S’s PSAT scores fall into the 25th percentile. He takes SAT’s for the first time in March and ACT in April.

Would you or anyone else know how many kids they accept from the 25th percentile…I guess I’ll have to look through the Common Data Set that I just printed!

Also, how much do the kids see the scores going up just by taking a bunch of practice tests ahead of time? Thanks. I’m hoping that he breaks the 600 mark in all 3 categories, or comes close. Right now it’s only Math.

you do realize WPI is test-optional.

^^Thanks, Rizado. I do know that. However, like every other kid, my S will be applying to more than one school. WPI does ask for them, though, if no other project or whatever is available. Most of the schools he’s applying to have @ the same SAT score requirements, so we’ll just concentrate on getting his scores @ 600 or higher. Thanks.

WPI is test-optional but about 95% of the students do submit test scores. So the data is a pretty accurate representation of the student body :-)

In regards to your question about score improvement – I took maybe two or three practice tests plus the PSAT before taking the actual SAT. The only other prep I did was cramming strategies for my weaker sections the week before both tests.
I got 500/600’s on the practice tests but the PSAT said I should hit in the 700’s and I ended up getting that on the exam. I think it all depends on getting to know the test as well as you can, so either study strategies or do straight up practice depending on what works best for you!
Good luck to you and your son! WPI is a great school

The average SAT scores for WPI average around 1270-1430 for the middle 50% of accepted students. This score uses the highest of their Math and EITHER the Critical Reading or Writing, whichever is highest. Breaking that down to the basics… shoot for solid 600/700s.

^^Thanks so much for the added info, from Beantowngirl, Peanutbuttah, and TECH :)

He has taken @ 2 or 3 practice tests with @ 600 in CR and writing and @ 620-650 in Math. He will take a new practice test most every Sunday between now and first SAT test in March. Will sign up for ACT in April and will take SAT for a second time in June.

His w GPA is 3.7
He did the Frontiers program last summer and fell in love.
Admin. says a number of Frontiers kids do get admitted as long as grades and SAT are competetive enough. Whew.
