average SAT score due to exceptional reading SAT? Colleges look at individual scores?

I got a 590 in reading, 490 in math, and 500 in writing.

My overall score is 1580.

Will colleges care that my above average score in reading lifted my below average math and writing scores?

I want to go into something artistic or something to do with phycology maybe.

I imagine myself going to a state college I guess before going to graduate school. I know I am capable of a higher score but my life has been bad the last couple of years aha.

If anything, colleges MIGHT overlook a writing score, since some schools only consider your Critical Reading and Math scores.

There are no schools that would overlook your Math score for your slightly above average reading score. If you’re only a junior you should definitely consider studying for the SAT and taking it again. You should especially at least work on your math score to even it up a bit.

If you want to go into “something artistic,” math won’t be critical. But if you want to go into psychology, it will, so there are reasons beyond just a test score to raise your abilities.

Each college looks at things differently. They will see both your composite score and your individual scores. Luckily, you’re a junior, so you have time to raise your scores; there’s a lot of good advice here for that. Good luck.
