Does anybody have information on the average SAT scores of accepted students for computer science at UMASS or UCONN? The average SAT scores for admissions to the entire schools is easy to find, but I can’t find anything for acceptance into the comp sci major specifically. Thanks for any insights.
The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences at UMass Amherst currently has approximately 1732 active undergraduate students and almost 90 faculty. Our incoming first-year undergraduate students have a strong academic background with an average GPA and SAT score of 4.2 and 1429 respectively. Students closely interact with the CICS faculty in classes, in research labs, and in a variety of academic and community events.
Don’t see anything from UCONN.
For UMass you can see Fall 2021 data for class of 2025 here: https://www.umass.edu/uair/sites/default/files/publications/admissions_enrollment_reports/fall21.pdf#page=5
CICS: mean GPA 4.28 (not sure how they calculate that), mean SAT math 760, mean SAT EBRW 705.
Not sure about UConn stats by school/major (you can call and ask), but note that chem and physics are requirements for the college of engineering (where CS major resides).First-Year Admission Requirements | Undergraduate Admissions : Undergraduate Admissions
You received some good data and direction already. I would add this Umass Amherst link from fall 2020 to piggyback off of Mwfan.
I suggest students look at multi-year data for each institution they are considering. For example, according to last year’s common data set, only 26% of the fall 2021 entering class submitted SATs to UMass Amherst. That fact helped to drive the mean composite SAT for the entering class up 70 points and can skew students’ perceptions of their chances. For info and computer science, specifically, mean accepted SAT went from 1415 to 1460.
Also, remember that the entering class average is often very different from the accepted average. Add it all together, and you basically have a range from around 1380 mean enrolled in 2020 up to a 1460 mean accepted in 2021 for computer science. That’s a big difference, so be careful what numbers you are using and be sure to put those numbers into their proper context. Good luck with your search!
